~Alex's POV~

I felt the cold fingers of death burning their marks into my throat before I woke up, a sharp gasp blowing them away. My eyes dance around the room as my heart pulses uncontrollably into my chest. Then, I remember where I am. Jade's room. A moment later, I find myself sitting at the end of Jade's bed, on the floor, with papers sprawled out around me. Each one of them is empty. Carefully, a glance at the clock confirms that I had woken up earlier than anyone. 2:56 A.M. stares right back at me; I can only imagine it with a shit-eating grin.

I wanted to get the racing, frantic images of that nightmare from my mind expeditiously. So, taking one of the pages from my makeshift circle and grabbing a pen threatening to roll off her desk, I start to draw. Though the artistic abilities that Luca has are out of reach, I have my own set of visions to put my emotions down on the canvas. But what am I feeling? A storm, a nasty one. Horrors and fears that I didn't even know existed flashed one after the other. The tip of the pen hovered over the paper before me. There's a problem. I don't know what I'm feeling.

The sharp tang of iron burned my nostrils, my eyes watered to the point of being blinded, my body was shaking from head to toe. A stinging, frigid sensation rushed up my hand from the tips of my fingers: the hammer. My fingers wrapped around it like it was the only thing keeping me safe. Yet, it wasn't. In fact, it was the complete opposite.

No word is enough to describe the twisting in my stomach. Then, a rawness so foreign runs through my veins, another feeling that resonated from the nightmare. Control. But it wasn't me. It was controlling, whatever that feeling was. It took its place in the hand that yielded the hammer, and it made me swing, swing, swing until the end of the hammer collided with something and—

A tremulous breath escapes my lips. It scared me, that's all that matters now. I tuck my knees closer into my chest, staring down at the paper that remains blank. Hot tears threaten to spill, I look upward to blink them away. I've had bad dreams, yes, but none have been this bad. The last time I've seen something so vivid was months after the accident, but they've been drowned out by good dreams for a while now. Whatever this was, it's the closest thing to those nightmares.

A voice from the curtain of dusk startles me, "What are you doing?"

I practically snapped my neck turning to face the source. Peering through the dark, I see Jade sitting up, eyes screwn to see through the dark, hair tousled every which way. My shoulders sag slightly. She doesn't lie back down. Propped up on her elbows, she gazes at me.

A frown makes way to my face as I reply just barely above a whisper, "I woke up and just couldn't fall back asleep."

"Why? Are you okay?" She throws the blanket aside and shifts herself so that she's now facing me from the end of the bed, her legs toward the pillows. "Did you have a nightmare or something?"
