~3rd Person POV~
As one fell after the other, all of the students from the main course were drawn to the horrors just a catwalk away. The day they'd fallen was a silent day, the clouds had darkened as they moved in as swiftly as a spy, and it was as if someone had placed the entirety of the world on mute. No one made a noise, not after the first person fell. Then the next.
No one knew what it was, but the mob just beyond the gates had made it clear that their minds were made up as to who the villain was. Grand signs are brandished through the crowd, people clawing at the gates and wrapping their white-knuckles fits around the bars as others use them as leverage to get over. The formal Ultimate bodyguard had no problem fending them off, even with the rising fury of the population. The mob's shouts echoed in the emptiness of the city, and everyone was made to hear the choir's song of detestation and indignation.
Teachers have taken what authoritative role they could to tell their students that, despite the trivial circumstances, their safety is assured and that it was best to ignore the crowd. Their efforts, although heartfelt, are futile, and the crowd has drawn much more attention than should have been warranted. All of the students with a clear view, such as 77-A and 77-B, have had their eyes glued to the windows, taking note of everything while they could, forming a small band of journalists.
"After what happened to those guys," Light started, fighting through the strain of his jaw, "I would be down there, too, if it were my kid."
Erza acknowledged the statement with a slow nod, as if it were automated. "I can't be angry with them. All they want is closure, or an explanation as to why they..."
"Jumped?" The hesitation in his sister's voice was striking, and Jaxx took it upon himself to recover the sentence. He'd turned to her, the wrinkle between his furrowed brow all too obvious.
The cosmetologist nodded, pressing her lips tightly. It crashed into her like a wave when it was discovered what those students had done, and she couldn't fathom the horror they were forced to endure in such a terrifying setting. Staring down at the city for the last time, either against your will or not. She folded her arms over her chest as a rattling breath emitted from her. Jaxx, in a small effort to bring her reprieve, he'd rubbed her back.
"C'mon, borrowing you for a sec," Erza said suddenly, grabbing Jaxx's blazer sleeve tightly and pulling him until they were both out of the room. A few curious eyes had followed.
"Where are they going?" Skye asked. The very source of happiness that everyone knew too well, even the spark inside of her, was starting to diminish. It was difficult to muster a smile at these times.
Kat shrugged, combing down strands of her tousled brown locks with her fingers. "I'm not sure, she didn't say."
The slightest hope that the room would brighten once more was sheltered once again. Everyone, from all points in the room—desks, the back of the room, the doorway, the windowsills—had watched the fire down in that mob grow brighter and brighter with their rage, and their rattling against the gate had grown stronger. The bodyguard takes out a walkie-talkie, speaks into it for no more than a moment, then pockets it as he pivots toward the crowd from his safety on the other side of the gate.
