~Alex's POV~
"Did we get everything?" I manage, my voice strained as I pull the bags in. The crooks of my arms are bombarded with thing bag straps digging into my skin, and each step I take is flawed by the heaviness weighing me down. I hold the door open with my foot, then let it go as I waddle further into the dorm.
Effortlessly, Jade passes me to the couch and drops the boxes she'd been carrying like they'd weighed nothing. A hefty sigh drifts from her lips as she dusts her hands.. "God, I hope so."
I eventually make it over to the couch and drop everything onto the floor, fighting the urge to collapse right with them. Last-minute shopping is the worst thing anyone can do to themselves, whether they have to grab a thing or two or fish through an entire catalog of everyone's names with specified things to buy. It's the most torturous thing you could do to yourself. Whose idea was it to go shopping this late in the month?! Me. It's my fault. Guilt is foreign to me on this matter, and I just let myself fall onto the couch before I really do lie down next to these bags.
"Doesn't Zach have the other stuff?" The memory hits me the second I bring the pillow that I had also bought to my chest.
"I think so." After sliding off her jacket—the leather one that I'd made her—and hanging it up, she carefully treads through the sea of bags and boxes to sit next to me. "He said he'd keep it in his car. But he told me that he ran into Light and asked him to hold it, and he could have passed it on to Drake, who would've given it to Jaxx, who I think gave it to Char—... Why is everyone doing last-minute shopping in the exact same place?"
"One: it's closer. Two: we're amazing procrastinators." The way my scarf makes me feel snug against the cold is tempting me to keep it around my neck, but it unravels itself and falls against my shoulder. I set it in my lap; my favorite thing about it is the color. Light pink with a bow ironed into place just above the stitches. It's cozy and cute, perfect for me.
Today is the first snow day of the year. More recently, it's been snowing just before Christmas ever since I started attending this school. I'm not griping, it's precise timing. Winter break starts tomorrow, so today was the day to get all of your stresses out of the way and to unwind for the two weeks off we'll have. I'm more than ready now that I can cross off Christmas Shopping off my To-Do list.
Kindly, Jade had made us hot chocolate. After taking time to catch my breath, I sit up and set my hot chocolate down on the table. Dare I ask, "Do we have anything else to do today?"
The ceiling becomes her focal point before confirming, "Don't you have that meeting thing today?"
"Fuck!" I didn't mean to swear too loudly, but at the same time, come on! I thought I was done for the day. I groan into my palms.
"Language, Love!" Despite her words, the amusement is beyond clear from the coat gleaming over her eyes. She takes a satisfied sip, knowing damn well that she's gonna be comfortable up here while I have to go back to war (the snow).
