~ 3rd Person POV~

Minutes before the game ended, a sickening crack reverberated down the hall. In the fighter's grasp was a head, cradled close to her while he was still. The game is over. She's the last standing contestant. Victory, however, was vacant. Jade felt a heaviness in her chest, and it wasn't the head she held now. Remorse, however? A thing of the past. Hopeless. What is she to do now if it isn't make everyone else's lives harder?

Slow, rhythmic clapping came from around the corner despite the pair of footsteps. As slow as the pattern, Jade raised her head to see two known faces. But she couldn't pin where she'd known them from. The mastermind himself, and his partner in crime. If it weren't for his grin, Jade could've believed that the ghosts of those he took out were hovering over Ajax's shoulders.

"Yay, you won," said Ajax, the venom coating his tone left a bitter taste.

Only then did Jade let the head from her grasp fall. Her attention was glued to the ominous duo. "Now what? The game was easy."

Irritation puffed from Ajax. "It was only easy 'cause no one can listen to a few directions here and there, don't ya think?"

"When you tell people they have to kill to survive—"

"They'll panic and start running amok and yada, yada," he cut in swiftly. Ajax's glare sharp as a dagger; he aimed at Jade. "I've heard it before.  But that wouldn't have happened. There are ways to get out. You're just sneaky."

"Would you please hurry and use the flashlight so we can get out of here?" Levi's movements are presented carefully, as if each one were to be broadcast for others to see, like his reputation was at stake. The darkness of his eyes deepened into pools of misery, but they remained unwavering as he locked them on his companion. Throughout the game, Jade had speculated on an alliance between the two. From the moment she'd woken up in the room that reeked of must and dew to when the claim of there being masterminds was left on a note.

Now, her speculation stood before her, a constant reminder of that gut feeling in her stomach. Now, once she had felt lost because of it, as it has proved her right time and time again.

Ajax whipped his head to look toward the detective, who still hadn't averted his gaze. Snarling, Ajax dug into his pocket to retrieve what seemed to be a flashlight. He starts to approach the fighter, and she gets up and starts moving back. The body in her lap fell, and Ajax merely stepped over it as if it were an inconvenience.

"You wanted the truth, right?" The question felt like a taunt, and the grin slithering upon his lips hadn't refuted it. It was a specialty of his. Playing and taunting those whom he deemed weak. All throughout the game, he placed obvious trials before his subjects, and they always fell right into the trap, falling farther and farther into madness.  Everyone steered clear of him, but that wouldn't save them. Unpredictability was just a treat in his pocket, a luck charm.

It ALWAYS worked in his favor.

Jade continued moving back, flight kicking in rather than fight. Her gaze moved side to side, seeing if there was a way to escape. The walls are devoid of any exits. She couldn't muster the fight now. Has she really won?
