SEPTEMBER

~Zach's POV~

I couldn't even count this as unwinding from the week before. First full week of school, and I've learned that the freshmen are not only aggravating, but a completely different bunch that are beyond entitled. I was almost trampled by a stampede of them trying to get to the lunchroom for the sucky food. They were in their final form of irksome before the end of the week.. The freshmen are destructive and take fill-in spaces that don't even belong to them; the hands-on talent rooms are always victims of their treacherous behavior.. One day, if I had come as little as a minute later, my guitar would have been smashed into pieces by the hands of a smug, jackass freshmen.. I've never raised my voice as thunderously as I did that day. They'd left the band room immediately, and I savored their perplexed and nervous expressions. I would've never thought I'd be intimidating as an upperclassman. Just don't fuck around with my guitar.

Everything that had happened last week—adjusting to the new addition of freshmen in the class—was one of the most exhausting things ever. So much so that I had forgotten where Levi had offered to take me earlier that week. As we grow closer to the school doors barely hanging onto their hinges, I start to regret accepting the invitation. I don't mess around with ghosts.. Levi moves the door aside slowly. It doesn't crash onto the floor and take the entire building down with it. That's what it feels like. One small movement is enough to take everything and everyone down with it. Levi steps through the doorway first, and when I don't follow, he stops and turns back to me. My eyes move rapidly over the exterior. I can only imagine what the inside would look like.

"You don't have to worry about anything," Levi assures me, his voice is loud only because everything around us is silent.

I'm not worried. I'm not scared of any of this. It's just... iffy.

Ahead, Levi lets out a soft sigh. "You're biting your lip. You'll be fine, come on."

"I'm not—" My sentence is cut short when I taste iron. I swipe my tongue across my bottom lip. I guess I was a bit. The cuffs feel tight, and I adjust them, making sure the spikes are in the specific order that I always wear them. "Whatever, shut up."

"Then, let's go!"

I'm tired of suppressing it, and I roll my eyes as I step through the threshold of the outside and this building, and it's not even a second before I'm hit with something so atrocious. This place smells like straight ass.

Our footsteps across off the walls, the floorboards groan beneath us. With each doorway we pass through, I expect bats to fly out toward us and suffocate us. Maybe I've watched too many movies like that. There was this one movie where the bats actually transformed into humans, but they were more of hallucinations rather than vampires. I've never sat down entirely for a full vampire movie—how did we get to another floor already?!

The walls are a dark, yellow-ish green tint, and the moon's light gives it this luminescent glow. The floors are checkered, purple and black, and no longer creak as we walk. We walk through grand pillars stationed along the hall, the further and further we walk down the hall. The vibe here is worse than it was downstairs. That pungent smell is gone.
