Meera's pov
As per Ruhaan's request, I called Kabeer. Within two rings, he picked up, his voice filled with warmth.
"Ohh, my Ruhaan baby, kaisa hai mera chotu? Haan, Chachu ko yaad kar raha tha mera bacha?" Kabeer said, making me chuckle.
"Yes, Chachu, missing you too much!" Ruhaan replied enthusiastically, his innocent voice filling the room.
"Areyy, Dev Chachu ko toh bhool hi gaye hai, kuch log," came Dev's teasing voice in the background.
"No, Chachu, I miss you too!" Ruhaan corrected, and I laughed at their playful banter.
"Ruhaan! Mera bachaa, kaisa hai tu? Haan, Dadi ki yaad nahi aa rahi tujhe?" Maa sa's voice came through the phone, and I smiled.
It wasn't a surprise. Maa sa and Baba sa had visited us in Canada recently, spending four months here with Ruhaan. I was happy that Ruhaan had the chance to bond with them, especially given how much they loved him.
One day, Ruhaan and Dev were chatting when Maa sa caught them in the act. The next thing I knew, they were on their way to Canada. They wanted me to return, but I couldn't bring myself to. I felt guilty and scared—worried about how Adhyay might feel if he knew I had left without a word. So, I convinced Maa sa and Baba sa not to tell him anything. Adhyay remained unaware, and it felt like the only way I could keep some peace.
"Meera meri bachi, kaisi hai tu?" Baba sa's voice came, and I smiled warmly.
"Main ekdum thik hoon, Baba sa. Aap kaise hain?" I asked, genuinely curious.
"Tujhe bohot miss kar rahe hain," he replied, and I felt a pang of guilt deep in my heart.
I missed them too, but I had my reasons for keeping Ruhaan away from them. It wasn't an easy decision, but it was the only one I could make for his safety.
"Bhabhi, we're coming to Canada tomorrow for some business deal. We'll come to meet you," Dev said, and I nodded happily, grateful for the chance to see them soon.
After dinner, I tucked Ruhaan into bed in his room. He was different from other children his age—more mature, more reserved, just like his father. His eyes, though, were the most captivating part of him. They were the same as Adhyay's, and every time I looked into them, I was reminded of the love I once had and the life we almost shared.
