Meera's POV
It's been four years since Adhyay and I got married, but we've never really celebrated our anniversary. Well, it's still a few months away, and to be honest, I've always been the reason behind it. Life has been a whirlwind of events, but this time, I'm determined to make it memorable.
But today... today, I had something else to share with him. It's been weeks since we discussed having another child, and after feeling nauseous and dizzy for the past few days, I decided to take a test. I had a feeling, but when the result came back, I couldn't help but stare at the positive sign, almost in disbelief. I'm pregnant.
The excitement bubbled inside me, but I also felt a tinge of nervousness. How do I tell him? How do I make him understand that this news is just as much a surprise to me as it is to him?
I was lost in my thoughts when the sound of the bathroom door opening caught my attention. It was 7 o'clock, and Adhyay had just returned from his office.
I quickly shoved the test into my pocket, my heart racing as he walked in, looking as handsome as ever with that familiar tired yet satisfied look on his face. His presence filled the room, and despite everything swirling in my mind, I felt comforted by his proximity.
"Hey," Adhyay said, his voice warm, as he gave me a smile. He walked toward me, his tired eyes softening as he saw me standing there, lost in thought.
"Hey, you're home early," I replied, trying to hide the excitement in my voice.
He raised an eyebrow as he noticed my strange expression. "What's going on? You look like you're carrying a secret."
I chuckled nervously. "Maybe I am."
Adhyay came closer, his brow furrowing slightly in concern. "What's wrong, Meera? You look a little... different today. Is everything okay?"
I smiled, feeling my heart beat faster. "Actually... yes. Everything is more than okay."
And with that, I knew this moment would change everything.
I took a deep breath, gathering my courage before finally saying it aloud. "Adhyay," I started, my voice a little shaky, "I... I took a test today."
He looked at me curiously, his usual calm demeanor shifting to one of concern. "What test? Is everything alright?"
I could barely hold back my excitement as I took a small step forward. "I'm pregnant," I whispered.
The words hung in the air between us, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still. Adhyay just stood there, frozen, his expression unreadable. His eyes widened, and I could see his mind racing as he tried to process what I had just said.
"Wait... what?" he finally asked, his voice hoarse.
I nodded, a soft smile forming on my lips despite the nerves still fluttering in my chest. "I'm pregnant, Adhyay. We're going to have another baby."
He blinked several times, still in shock, as if he couldn't believe what he was hearing. His mouth opened and closed, and for a second, he looked as though he might say something—anything—but the words seemed stuck in his throat.
Before either of us could say anything else, a small voice broke the silence.
"Mama! Baba!"
We both turned toward the door, and there stood Ruhaan, looking up at us with his wide, innocent eyes. "I wanna spend time with Baba!" he announced, a big grin spreading across his face as he shuffled into the room.
The tension in the air broke in an instant. I could see the relief in Adhyay's expression as he quickly regained his composure. He took a deep breath, trying to hide his shock, and walked over to Ruhaan, scooping him into his arms with a smile.
