The day has finally came for Chaeyoung to be wed to her soulmate, Lisa. The vineyard buzzed with the joyful chaos of wedding preparations. There was nothing happier than this day for the two. Love won, again, and it's more than worth to be celebrated.
The sun dipped low on the horizon, casting a golden hue over the sprawling vineyard. Jennie adjusted her camera settings, capturing the brides laughing with their bridesmaids. The soft click of her shutter felt like a heartbeat, steady and familiar. Weddings were her favorite-raw emotions and fleeting moments were immortalized in frames, captured through her other eyes.
Jennie exhaled. She was exhausted of the long day but honestly she would never trade this job with anything in the world. The joy it brought her was far too expensive to be exchanged with anything else.
In a serendipitous moment, as Jennie adjusted her camera strap and backed up to find the perfect angle of the bride's bouquets when- thud! Her camera jolted in her hands as she collided with someone.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" Jennie gasped, turning around immediately in a little panic.
A woman stood in front of her, cradling a video rig in her arms. Loose strands of dark hair framed her surprised face. There was this glow in her face that Jennie had never seen in anyone before. "No, no-it's my fault," she stuttered quickly, checking her equipment. "I'm really sorry. Are you alright? Is your camera okay? Is everything fine?"
Jennie chuckled lightly, trying to keep her cool as if she didn't just think to herself that she met the most beautiful angel on earth. "Don't worry about it. I'm good. What about your rig? And a-are you okay?"
The woman nodded. "All good. These things are tougher than they look." She extended a hand. "Jisoo, videographer. Professional at getting in people's way, apparently."
Jennie grinned. "Jennie, photographer. Serial space invader. Nice to meet you," she replied as she took Jisoo's hand. "Oh, is that yours?"
They both crouched instinctively to pick up a stray battery that had tumbled from Jisoo's pocket. Their hands brushed, and Jennie pulled back, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear nervously. Of course, Jennie had met countless gorgeous women before, but Jisoo was just different. There was this energy that radiated out of Jisoo that couldn't be explained by words. Jennie was starstruck.
"Well, I think that's everything," Jisoo said, standing and slinging the rig over her shoulder. "Guess we're in for a long day."
"Looks like it," Jennie replied. "Good luck out there."
Jisoo smiled. "Same to you. Try not to run into any more videographers."
"Only if they promise to stay out of my shot," Jennie teased.
The ceremony unfolded in a dreamy haze of soft light and heartfelt vows. Jennie and Jisoo found themselves crossing paths repeatedly-near the altar, among the guests, even at the dessert table. Destiny seemed to have funny ways to make them exchange gazes as if there was a red string tied to their fingers, though realistically they might have the exact same vision of good angles and lightings--though even so, being realistic was still somewhat romantic.
By the time the night fell and both almost finished what they're supposed to do for the day, Jennie had begun to look for Jisoo's familiar silhouette, camera grasped firmly in her hand.
When Chaeyoung and Lisa shared their first dance, Jennie crouched to frame the shot perfectly-only to realize Jisoo had done the same. Their eyes met, and they both stifled a laugh.
"I thought I told you to stay out of my way," Jennie whispered playfully as she moved to her left.
"I'm just here to make your shots look better," Jisoo whispered back.
They both giggled at their shared sense of humor. As Jennie stood up and the guests started to surround the dance floor, Jisoo tapped her shoulder.
"Mind to dance for a while?"
It was a harmless request after all. Both let their cameras hang around their neck for a while. The music that once was jazzy and slow became upbeat and fun, so they followed how the guests swarmed in pairs, twirling under the twinkling lights. With lighthearted moves, Jisoo lead Jennie by gripping her hips, and their legs just moved freely like they had never been before.
"I don't usually do this," Jennie admitted, her cheeks warm.
"Dance? Or let someone else take the lead?" Jisoo teased.
"Both," Jennie said with a laugh.
"Well, there's a first time for everything."
Jennie couldn't feel anything but Jisoo's hands on her hips, Jisoo's eyes shooting a playful gaze towards her eyes, and Jisoo's breath on her face. Jisoo smelled like buttercup flowers. Jennie was drowning into Jisoo as she dipped while Jisoo held her steady.
The world around them seemed to fade as they moved together. Jennie felt the weight of the day lift, replaced by a lightness she hadn't expected. She caught herself smiling up at Jisoo who just had turned her carefully planned day upside down.
"You're not bad at this," Jennie said softly.
Jisoo grinned. "I'd say the same about you."
As the song ended and their electricity turned into something soft and fond, they had to part ways for some while to continue their duty. Jennie couldn't help but feel Jisoo's essence lingering. Oddly enough, it could be said the same for Jisoo.
Later, during a lull, Jisoo approached Jennie with a glass of sparkling water.
They leaned against a quiet stretch of the terrace, sipping their drinks and watching the stars emerge. Jennie glanced at Jisoo, noting the way her eyes sparkled in the dim light.
"So," Jisoo said, breaking the silence, "how do you feel about collaborating on a project? Maybe something... cinematic?"
Jennie raised an eyebrow. "Depends. What kind of project?"
"A short film," Jisoo said with a grin. "Starring a photographer and a videographer who keep bumping into each other."
Jisoo's bravery and constant confidence never failed to charm Jennie. So, Jennie laughed, warmth spreading in her chest. "Sounds like an upcoming blockbuster movie."
"Potentially, yes. Only if the leading actor is Ryan Gosling and the leading actress is Margot Robbie," replied Jisoo. "Or maybe Margot Robbie and Blake Lively."
They both laughed. So, they exchanged numbers, and the world around them seemed to blur, like a background beautifully out of focus.
This time, neither of them minded the collision.
