It was quite recent actually. Well, not really. Jennie had known Jisoo for at least four years by then. Jennie was close with Jisoo's half sister who was younger, Chaeyoung, after all. However, they never talked with each other, let alone had any interaction other than whenever with Chaeyoung, and furthermore get close.
But perhaps, they eyed each other... a little.
Jisoo knew Jennie liked girls, and vice versa. So, while Chaeyoung was completely straight and was dating a guy on and off, Jisoo and Jennie had a different kind of chemistry between them, a completely different one than the one between Jennie and Chaeyoung.
They all went to the same campus anyways and recently, Jisoo had a project that required her to perform with Chaeyoung and Jennie. While they had occasionally done that before, they always did it with tons of other people, so it was never awkward and Jisoo never had the chance to be in a close proximity with Jennie. However, this recent project was not the same.
In Jisoo's project, she was required by her lecturer to make a short film with only four people in it with the theme of forbidden romance. Obviously, her loner ass couldn't find anyone suitable, and decided she would ask her sister, her cousin Lisa, and Jennie instead. So, she did.
The project lasted for three weeks. Acting practices, shootings, chemistry build up, script reading, costume planning, make up sessions, and there were tons of other things they did together. With Chaeyoung busy with her boyfriend and Lisa always busy with her work during break sessions, Jisoo and Jennie were often left alone.
It wasn't much really.
But recently, their gazes towards each other was... odd. There was something strange between them, even when neither knew what it was. They laughed together a lot as they bonded over their love for memes and games. Suddenly, they talked a lot and slowly, they became closer... and closer... and closer.
The day Jisoo wrapped up her project, Jennie felt something strange. Her heart was beating in a weird pace whenever Jisoo was around. Her body acted oddly whenever she saw Jisoo smiling from the corner of her eyes. Sure, Jennie was interested in girls, but she never thought it would be her best friend's older sister. While it was cool and there was nothing to worry over, Jennie was still a little anxious about how she felt towards Jisoo.
On the other hand, Jisoo also felt something unnatural forming in her guts, as if her guts were suggesting and urging her to do something she never really did before. Sure, Jisoo liked girls, but the idea of confessing to girls and dating them was never a part of her mind, as whenever she decided to date, it was the other party confessing their feelings towards her. Jisoo felt abnormal whenever she was around Jennie, as if she wanted to wrap her arms around her waist. It was such an unusual feeling that made her uneasy around Jennie, because something in the back of her head was trying to tell her to hold Jennie's hands.
While Jisoo liked girls, she never thought she would feel that sort of way towards her younger sister's best friend, let alone wanting to try and confess to her.
Clearly, it was uncanny. Even worse, it was unscripted.
Then happened the wrap party.
Nothing fancy as it was just a casual project — just the four of them crammed in Jisoo's tiny dorm room with a half-eaten pizza, mismatched paper cups, and a playlist Lisa insisted on controlling like a DJ. The mood was giddy but winding down. Lisa had passed out on the floor clutching her soju bottle, Chaeyoung was texting her boyfriend from the balcony, and the room had slipped into that late-night softness where everything felt a bit slower, quieter, warmer.
Jennie was sitting cross-legged on the floor, fiddling with the disposable camera they'd used during filming, trying to see if there were any shots left. Jisoo was leaning against the wall, her knees pulled up to her chest, watching her.
No one said anything for a while.
No one thought about saying anything for a while.
The silence between them was as frozen as rivers during the winter. No one was willing to break it, as they feared it would be even more awkward than it already was.
But Jisoo was a little tipsy from the bottle maekju she downed in thirty seconds. So was Jennie from the glass of somaek she drank mindlessly during their conversations.
Suddenly, their eyes met. It was just a little eye contact, sure, but it really made both girls' stomach flip up. Neither knew if it was the alcohol that made them want to vomit, or it was a word vomit nausea.
And then Jisoo just... blurted it out.
"Hey." Her voice cracked a little.
The words started vomitting.
Jennie looked up, eyebrows raised.
"I think I like you."
Jennie blinked. "Huh?"
Jisoo's face flushed immediately. She looked down at her socks, biting her lip. "I—um. I don't know. I just... I felt like if I didn't say it, I'd implode or something."
Jennie stayed quiet, stunned. Not in a bad way. Just in a holy shit kind of way.
"I know it's weird," Jisoo continued, now rapidly, nervously. "And yeah, you're Chaeyoung's best friend, and I'm older, and we never really talked until recently, and maybe this is just some weird leftover feelings from spending too much time together and acting out fake love scenes, but..." She laughed a little, awkwardly. "I don't know, it's been messing with my head. In a good way. But still. Messy."
Jennie just stared at her, lips parted, completely still.
Jisoo looked up, sheepish. "You don't have to say anything. I just... needed to get it out before I chicken out forever. So. Yeah. You can forget I said anything if it makes things weird."
There was a pause.
"Let's date." Jennie blurted out. "I'm down. Are you?"
"Yeah, sure," replied Jisoo, tilting her head. "So, we're cool?"
"Yeah. I mean... I like you too." Jennie confessed. "I didn't really feel anything the first time I met you as well. But recently, I've been... thinking... about you... quite a lot." She grinned awkwardly. "I don't know if it's the script that's been messing with my head or the way we talk and joke around whenever there's a break, but you managed to slip in my dreams at night as well," she explained, equally as awkward but still trying so hard to be casual.
Then there was this silence between them. Although awkward, at least this air in the room felt a little relieving. It was like they could finally breathe without suffocating.
"So... we're chill, like, we're dating now? You're my girlfriend and I'm your girlfriend?"
Jennie nodded. "Yep."
And so it began, a quick confession that formed a love that couldn't be broken, even by time.
