Even after being deemed innocent as there was not enough proof and that she was falsely accused, Jisoo's acting career seemed to freeze to death and failed to relaunch. Her management could not help save her reputation somehow as the public eyes had already seen her as a rapist. Though in fact, she really wasn't.
The case was fair and simple. She had a one night stand with her friend and that very friend accused her of assaulting him and forcing him to have sex with her. His indictments were insanely peculiar, because everything they did was consensual. He also insisted that he was drugged and she drove to his house drunk and even crashed into his porch. His insanely odd, baseless and narcisstic claims approached the public to praise the star for bravely speaking out to the public, while shaming Jisoo without caring about the truth.
Hell, he was even the one who initiated the move and asked her to walk on his door at midnight wearing nothing but lingerie. So, while Jisoo might be able to confide in herself for she wasn't wrong at all, people still tried to find the mistakes and the blame on her, especially when her friend was a senior and more well known actor who was loved by the world.
Even worse, Jisoo wanted to defend herself, but to sue that guy for defamation would mean she would be murdered by hitmen paid by him while his strange media monopoly would make his mourning over her seem like an empathetical behavior. She knew that guy would do anything to protect his ego and persona, even that far lengths of criminality and unethical ways. Hell, her scandal was literally caused by his wounded ego being jealous as Jisoo got nominated for an Oscar on her small role in a Bollywood movie that somehow blew up.
While battling what seemed as an otherworldly challenge, she found herself giving up, slowly losing herself in the process of trying to heal. She could barely deal with herself. Even when she knew she was right, she still couldn't deal with the amount of hate that was thrown at her face, which was crazy especially since she wasn't all loved even before she rose to fame and fell into the depth of darkness because of that horrible friend of hers. Every passing day was another day of mourning, even when the skies were lit up by the barely glowing sun. Every passing moment felt like hell for even when she still starred in movies and series, they couldn't really blow up due to the public's distrust towards her. Those people supporting that friend of hers tortured her mentally and there was nothing for her to rely on but her own shoulders.
Praying for a miracle was the only logical thing to do, perhaps. Sometimes, rainbows do actually appear after the biggest storms that wrecked ships. You just have to hold on and not sink.
And that's what happened.
"Jisoo?" Lisa, Jisoo's loyal manager who stuck through her thick and thin, popped her head out of the door. "You good?"
Jisoo looked away from her phone. She smiled softly and nodded. "Yes?"
Lisa stepped fully into the room, holding a sleek black folder in her hands. "There's a new offer," she said, voice cautious but laced with hope. "Not for acting. Not yet. But there's this international program scouting artists and creatives to join a year-long residency in partnership with universities across Europe. They're interested in you. For a guest lecture, maybe even a workshop. It's in Paris."
Jisoo blinked. "Paris?" The word felt strange on her tongue, foreign and far-almost too far from her wreckage of a life here.
Lisa nodded. "I think you need this. A change. A breather."
Holding on little wreckages of the ship could float you for some time. Holding on to small hopes might help Jisoo breathe for a while.
She hesitated. "Will they even want me there?" Worry was drawn across her face.
