"Come on, guys, cheer up a little!" Chaeyoung said whilst driving the car.

Jisoo was busy jamming to the radio on her own, while the two on the backseat were awfully... quiet. No one had any idea why and how the silence started but it was such a strange quietness. The quietness between them wasn't like a frozen river that could wait for the summer to melt it, but more like the sun's harsh and untameable flaming surface not being able to be calmed down by anything at all until its guaranteed death.

They were headed back to their dorm after a weekend girls glamping, back to their real world. However, it seemed like the couple, Jennie and Lisa, felt a little somewhat distant, as if they were in their own worlds, barely interacting with one another. Usually, the two would already show so much PDA, but that's what made them iconic and authentic: the ability to be brave and real in showing their love. However, these two seemed a little off the zone, both during the glamping and on their way home, but it was worsened on their way home.

To be completely honest, Chaeyoung was clueless on what to do. Not only the two seemed aloof and cold, they both kept on arguing every time they were around each other. Chaeyoung even asked Jisoo, whom at the time was in a relationship with some guy in their university, on how to help those two based on her experiences. They both tried, but at the end, nothing could help them fix their problems.

"Couple fights are normal, Chae," said Jisoo. "But it doesn't last this long for me. It's either me or my boyfriend who apologizes first, and then we reconcile."

Chaeyoung sighed. "I know."

"These two... they fight and they don't even finish their fuming hot anger, before leaving each other with silent treatments, and when they meet again, they start arguing again."

"God, when did these two become such an unbearable couple?"

Jisoo shrugged. "It's odd. They were inseparable, but now.."

The two barely even talked. They even separated their seats with the bags between them. No part of their body was touching, and it seemed as no part of their heart was left for each other.

Chaeyoung adjusted her grip on the wheel, the soft hum of tires on the road the only real sound now that the radio had shifted to a slow ballad. Jisoo had finally stopped dancing, resting her chin on her hand as she gazed out the window, her expression unreadable but she was probably imagining scenes from the music like she always did anyways.

Jennie leaned her head against the glass, arms crossed tightly over her chest. Lisa scrolled through her phone, screen brightness reflecting off her face, but she wasn't really looking at it—just using it to avoid saying what needed to be said.

The silence was starting to feel like another passenger in the car. Heavy. Breathing between them. Watching. Suffocating. Itching.

"So..." Chaeyoung tried again, voice deliberately light, "who wants to stop for ice cream on the way home?"

Jisoo turned her head. "Only if we can get the weird salty caramel one you love."

"Deal." Chaeyoung smiled, grateful for any normalcy. But behind her, the silence only deepened.

Jennie finally spoke. Her voice was soft, but it cut through the quiet like glass. "We don't need to pretend everything's fine."

Lisa's phone lowered slightly, her jaw tightening.

Jisoo looked into the rearview mirror, her eyes flicking between them. "Guys—"

Jennie shook her head. "It's okay, really. I think it's time we stop dragging this out."

Lisa's voice was barely a whisper. "So that's it?"

"I think it's been it for a while, Lisa," Jennie replied. "We just kept pretending because we were scared. Or because it felt easier than ending something that used to feel perfect."

Lisa looked down at her hands, the nail polish chipped from nervous biting. "I wasn't pretending. I just... didn't know how to fix it."

"And I kept waiting for you to try," Jennie admitted. "But I wasn't trying either. We were just... waiting. And hurting."

The car remained silent, but the atmosphere shifted. Not with tension this time, but with something quieter. Sadder. Honest.

Perhaps, it's time for them to realize they were adults and finishing problems in adult relationships require actual communication instead of silence which would cause further pain and misunderstandings. Even though it was quite not the right time to talk it out, at least they talked it out... finally.

"I love you," Lisa said. "But maybe that's not always enough."

Jennie looked over at her, really looked at her, for the first time in days. "I love you too. That doesn't mean we're good for each other right now."

Jisoo bit her lip, clearly trying to hold back tears. Chaeyoung focused on the road, her knuckles pale on the steering wheel. There was no doubt they were absolutely scared of losing their friends, let alone watching a fight go down in the middle of the highway.

No one spoke for a while.

Then Jennie added, "But I don't regret any of it. You made me feel alive. You reminded me I could be loved loudly, and without shame. That means something."

Lisa nodded, her eyes shining. "You taught me how to be brave. And how to say sorry, even when it's hard."

"Thank you."

"Thank you."

Maybe, just maybe, that's all that they needed: closure. It was not much apparently, but it was enough to finish what was done, in good terms.

They reached the edge of the city. The skyline was coming into view, all golden light and long shadows. The weekend was over. So was something else.

The silence was no longer deafening, it was a little... liberating, at least for Jennie and Lisa. Even when Chaeyoung and Jisoo still feared the awkwardness, at least the two didn't have to constantly live in fear of facing fights as if it was regular.

Chaeyoung pulled into a gas station. "Ice cream?" she asked quietly.

"Please," Jisoo said, unbuckling her seatbelt.

Jennie opened her door, pausing before stepping out. She turned to Lisa. "Let's not end this with silence, okay?"

Lisa met her gaze, and for the first time in days, smiled. "Okay."

It wasn't a perfect ending. But it was real.

And sometimes, closure sounds a lot like kindness.
