Grasping the concept of being dead can be a bit difficult. Now, don't get me wrong, Finnick understood he was dead. Heck with all he's been through it was a miracle it didn't happen sooner!!
No, being dead wasn't that hard for him to deal with, it was the part that he was surrounded by his parents, the parents he loved BUT lost many years ago!! Finnick had never been one to believe very strongly in the afterlife, but now he sat here, even remembered how he died, horrible as it had been, but still there was only one thought in his mind.
"Elizabeth?"
Now why did he ask his parents, they didn't know who she was, did they??
But they had known, and as Finnick walked down the path to the small house he recognized as his beloved's childhood home, he fealt like he was about to explode.
When Ian was the one who opened the door, he didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He bent down and hugged the boy, he had grown, or could you even do that in the afterlife? At least that wasn't the important thing now, Ian pulled him through the house and onto a smal staircase, and there she stood. She had her back to him and was talking to a man she called dad. His heart skipped a beat with happiness, both for her sake, but also for his own. But what would he do now? He couldn't just stand here, so he didn't.
"Gee Lizzy, I never thought your brother would be happier to meet your husband than you!!"
At those words she turned, and with a big smile on her face she rushed into his already open arms.
Much later he had sometimes wondered if she remembered her death, as he did, his parents remembered theirs, but her mother claimed it was a blurry memory in her case. Finally he had dared to ask her and she had shrugged her shoulders and told him, she had thought he already knew, but she died in the arena, she heard him shout her name, then there was a flash, a light and before she knew it, she had woken up here. He had nodded and thanked her for sharing. But at the same time, he had felt a bit guilty. Guilty because in that moment he came to the conclusion that he would always hold one thing secret for her.
You see that was actually not at all the way she had died, but Finnick was damned if he was the one to tell her that.
Because he came to the conclusion that if you had an unusually frightening or traumatizing death, you couldn't really remember it. So why he remembered his he would probably never get an answer to, because that was a traumatizing one!! For everyone involved!!! But this was not about him, or his death, but Elizabeth's.
Because she hadn't died in the games, no, it was much much worse than that. He hadn't been able to find her, and neither had the rebels, so the capital had gotten to her first. Unlike Peeta and Johanna, she hadn't been forced to do interviews, no she had been Coryolanus Snow jr's favorite toy.
He had simply tortured her to death.
The other victors could testify to electric shocks through water, memory distortion and more horrible things, this because if they weren't subjected to it themselves they were made to watch when it was someone else's turn, but they all said the same thing too. There was a room a room dedicated to only Elizabeth, a room no one else but her and Cory set foot in, the only thing the other victors knew about that room was taht they sometimes would hear blood curdling screams that occasionally came from the room.
In fact, the only reason Finnick knew she was tortured to death was because when the rescue mission was performed, and he began to dare to believe he would see her again, everyone came off the air force, everyone except Elizabeth. She had died from previous injuries before they had even landed in 13. He had been allowed to see her one last time. You couldn't see signed on a single damage to her boddy, but Finnick knew they were there, he knew how the capital worked, in fact the only thing that was different from the last time he'd seen her in the games was the over-glamorous hideous silver ring that shone on her finger. He'd taken it, and during training he'd let Katniss destroy it, she'd shoot an explosiv ero at it, and he hadn't minded a singel bitt.
So Finnick was perfectly content to keep that information to himself.
If it meant that every day for the rest of his eternity he could wake up to Elizabeth's smiling face and his ring on her finger, he would be able to withhold that one little thing.......... That and the fact that he made Katniss Everdeen swear to kill Cory if she ever got the chance, if he couldn't do it himself.
It was for their happiness, and if he was honest, deep down he wished he could forget to.
So he wouldn't take that blessing away from her. Never.
