"Good morning sunshine," I let my head fall to the side and locked eyes with Kensie who was smiling sadly at me "disappear for a few hours and you've gone and got yourself shot."
"Kens," I dragged out the pain in my stomach so clear right now "still at Luke's?" I looked around the room and noticed it weren't a hospital room or the uncomfortable bed but a plush bed and a nicely decorated room. It weren't Luke's.
"You're in his guest room." Kensie spoke softly "can't really take people to the hospital for a bullet wound without questions being asked.
"That is true," everything came flooding back to me like a speed train "I got myself shot." The pain in my stomach felt like a thousand needles and that my insides were being ripped out my body.
"Luckily it didn't hit any organs," she informed me helping me sit up, groans and swears leaving my lips as my wound morphed as I shifted.
"Fucking hell it hurts," I practically whimpered looking at her with sad eyes "why did I do that?"
"The same question I want an answer to. You aren't part of this life Nicky don't go jumping in front of bullets."
"Don't tell me that Kensie when your boyfriend is the one who dragged me into this," she pursed her lips before nodding. It was true and she knew it, nothing she said would change the fact Luke was part of the reason I was here.
"My job..." I whined making her laugh and shake her head
"Luke's your boss do you really think he'll fire you? Especially after you jumped in the way of a bullet aimed at his brother."
"Brother?" The word sent confusion flooding my body, they weren't related; I know that.
"They act like brothers Nicky; aren't blood. It's an easier way to explain to new recruits. You upset, disobey, harm or cause severe damage to one of them, the other three come after you. Same goes for anyone linked to them, like me and I guess now you..." she trailed off at the end thinking her own statement over. "I didn't want you dragged into this life."
"You didn't drag me into this," I firmly spoke each word clear to reach her ears as she looked over at me sadly. "You had nothing to do with this Kensie."
"I should have told you to not do that article." The first article about Calum coming out. I caused that and this whole snowball of events.
"My stubborn ass still would have done it," she didn't deny or even speak another word moving her head to look out the big windows lining Luke's whole apartment. "Kens... who did save me?"
"Save you," she spoke again her voice quiet and barely heard "Luke did." I knew she was like that as she didn't want me to know any information on the four males; the more I knew, the more I was trapped. My fingertip rubbed against the top of my nail as I nodded thinking it all over with a deep breath leaving my nose. I was bandaged up tightly letting me know he knew what the fuck he was doing with fixing people.
"Is he the doctor of the group?" Gang films filled my head as I thought over the roles. There's the leader, Michael, the main boss above the other bosses. The voice that gets followed and obeyed constantly. What he says goes.
The hacker, Calum, proven when talking about the article Felix did. He had hacked and deleted every trace apparently except for the one that was available for just me for whatever fucking reason that was.
Doctor, Luke. The human that patches up the injuries and makes sure no one dies when they are around. Mainly since they can't go to hospital.
"Did he have to ask Michael to save me?" Worry was clear in my eyes as I waited for her to answer as she stared wide eyed at me.
"What?"
"Well Michael's the leader isn't he? The main one," quickly I corrected myself seeing her open her mouth bound to tell me how they are all leaders. "Surely he had to ask Michael if he could save me. For all I know the guy wants me dead."
"Nicky that's ridiculous,"
"Ridiculously true," I rebutted pointing at her "one less person to keep a tight leash on."
"He promised me he wouldn't harm you when your first article came out. But he said that none of your articles could be lied hence everything happening linked to your articles."
"So I caused dad to die."
"No you caused him to have an answer for his death. Michael was driving himself crazy trying to find out how he was linked."
"Did he?"
"Nope. There was a load of dead answers. Maybe you should ask Amelia... you are bed bound for the next few weeks till your stitches are semi healed." She placed her hand over my knee above the blanket squeezing the bone slightly as I sighed once again.
"I can't ask mom that. She needs to heal from what happened to him and with the funeral happening soon I-, I can't do that to her." As much as I want answers I want mom to heal from the death I didn't feel the need to go snooping as to why dad was targeted and killed by unbroken out of everything. 5SOS rival gang.
"Is he ok?" She moved her hand to move a stray piece of hair out her eyes seemingly thinking over if she should tell me. She knew who I was on about, it was clear on my face I was on about Calum.
"Well there's no bullet hole in him for starters." She joked making me crack a small smile at her, the first time it feels like I've done that since I've been here. "He's.... Okay." Alarm bells filled my head as I looked her over, her emerald eyes now avoiding the contact with me, finding the fibres on the blanket much more intriguing.
"Kensie..." do not make me move "I will go look myself if you're hiding something."
"You can't move Nic," she rolled her eyes crossing her arms. Defensive.
"Tell me what the hell I want to know then."
She seemed to stay silent for what felt like hours before she nodded; I weren't going to give up. I wanted answers and I wanted them now.
"Kensie!" Michael's voice echoed to the room just as she parted her lips to tell me. Her eyes begging making me sigh and nod,
"Go see what the dickhead wants but I'll be waiting for that answer so you better come right back." Her legs carried her quickly out the room, her white trainers hitting the floor as she left shutting the door securely behind her leaving me with my thoughts running wind with the main one in my mind,
What the fuck happened when I passed out.
