Today was our second mission. When I got home yesterday, I did nothing but sleep. I didn't even speak to mom or Jamie, I just couldn't bring it up. I like to hold things to myself, I don't want to bother other people.
Charlie and I got ready, and Nate gave us our weapons. I didn't see Elliot today, and the feeling of guilt was growing inside of me. Why wasn't he here today? Did I hurt him too much? No, that couldn't be it. He is too strong for that.
Nate nudged my side and looked at me. "Which weapon do you want?" I looked at the guns and knives in his hand and shrugged.
"You chose, I suck at this." A small smile formed on his lips as he gave me a hand gun and a pocket knife. I smiled up at him, but in my stomach, there was a bad feeling.
A feeling I got every time I need to kill someone.
I hate taking people's life. They are all worthy human beings, and I feel so bad for taking their lives. Maybe they have a family, or do they have a girlfriend they care about, and I just take them away. I am not such a person. I might be strong, and I would do a lot to find the killer, but the thought of killing people makes me sick.
I don't understand how Charlie and all the others are able to do it. I don't understand how they can live with the guilt. I never want to kill anyone. Not ever.
But I'm afraid I am going to have to if I go through with this.
"Okay!" Nate said to us. "You are ready to go?" I nodded my head and looked at Charlie. His fists were clenched and his eyes were murderous. He was very much ready.
"So, today, Max and I are going to join you. We are going to rob a storage, full of black bags. There are no rules rules for killing, kill anyone on your path and have no merci." He looked at me while saying this. "Now, there is only one rule. You may not, in no situation, look in those bags. It is for the boss, not for us to see. Understood?" Charlie and I nodded while Max just came walking our way.
I think I understand Nate now a little bit. Inside this gang, he is a sort of leader, a heartless murderer. But he only pretends to be one, because he isn't. He is a sweet, genuine guy who just want someone to love.
But he is the same as me and Charlie.
We are both very different persons in here, and at home. We live a double life, just like Hannah Montana, who turned out to be Miley Cyrus. I play to be Samantha Sherrington, while in real life, I am Chloe Cramel.
I looked at Max and he gave me a nod of acknowledgement. I smiled back at him while Charlie and Nate looked between us two.
"Did I miss something?" Charlie asked, a little suspicious. I just stared at Max, and together, we busted out laughing. Charlie looked at us with a weird look, but shrugged it off.
It felt good to have a little fun before the real work starts.
When we were done, we all got ready to go. We got in Nate's car and waited patiently to arrive at our destination. I sat next to Charlie in the back and Max next to Nate who drove the car. I grabbed Charlie's hand and squeezed it like there was no tomorrow. He didn't seem to mind, he only looked at me with a small smile.
"Don't be nervous Chloe, it's going to be alright." He said reassuringly. I smiled but kept my mouth shut. I didn't know what the problem was, but nothing seemed right anymore. It was so wrong. Only wrong and bad and stupid.
It made me want to smack myself in the face really hard.
When we arrived, I looked at the huge building in front of me. "You are serious Nate? We need to steal something from here?" He turned around and there was a strange, weird glint in his eyes. He smiled an evil smile and nodded.
"Don't worry, we need to go underground. No one will see us."
"Of course not. No one will see four people walking into such a huge building, of course there will be no guards and such." I replied sarcastically. Max looked at me and smirked.
"Did you forget Nate here is one of the best hackers in town? Did you forget I never miss one target?" He was too confident about this situation, but I just rolled my eyes and said nothing.
I saw the sadness in his eyes because he didn't want to kill. Just like me, he wasn't sure. He just acted he was. It is not funny to see everyone pretend to be someone they're not. We should all be ourselves, but we can't.It's annoying as fuck.
Nate grabbed his computer and ticked in a lot of things I didn't understand. This made me think of Jamie. I am sure they will be super good friends, talking about weird computer stuff.
I need to show them to each other.
After ten minutes, Nate turned around and smirked. "It's all done, let's get this party started." He shared a glance with Max and nodded.Max got out of the car and sprinted to the entrance. I looked at them, totally confused and asked, "What's going on?" Nate ignored me and kept his eyes on Max. Charlie just shrugged and looked out of the window again.
It was confusing as hell.
Max looked at Nate and signaled something with his hands. Nate nodded and looked at us. "Okay, there are four guards in the front entrance, but at the backside, there is another one and there are only two guards. Chloe, you take the backside, while Max and Charlie handle the front. Do you think you can handle this?" My mouth fell open in shock as I looked at him. I needed to go on my own in there and break through?
There was no way in hell I was going to make it.
I saw that Charlie wanted to protest, but Nate shut him up. "I know she can't do this alone, but you can't help her this time. They will constantly look at you, and if you keep helping her, she will be dead in no time. Just.. just take it slow Chloe, and don't kill if you don't need to alright? Have faith in yourself." I swallowed hard and nodded my head.
Well dad, you should be glad with a daughter like this. She is throwing her life away in an attempt to find your murder.
I got out of the car with Charlie on my heels. We tried not to look suspicious as we walked towards the building. Even though it was night, there was enough light to get us caught if we weren't careful. When we arrived with Max, Charlie followed him while I looked for the back entrance.
I didn't find it until two minutes later. There was a small door behind some bushes. I didn't even knew this building existed, how was I supposed to find the bags without getting caught?
I silently tried to open the door, but of course, it was locked. So, this building was so special it needs a lock and guards?
This is ridiculous.
I wanted to call Nate, but then I remembered I need to be silent. I didn't know how to open this lock, so I just tried in a pin which I got out of my purse. Of course, it didn't work, because this is not a movie or something, this is reality.
I tried a lot of other things I got in my purse but the door was stuck. I couldn't open it. I decided to call Nate, and he picked upafter a couple of rings. "Chloe, why the hell are you calling me?" he yelled through the phone.
"I can't get this door open, it's locked." I whispered. He cursed under his breath and said, "wait a minute" before hanging up.
I stood there, in the rain, waiting for the door to open. Finally, I heard a click and the door opened slowly. I peeked my head inside and immediately pulled it back when I saw the guards.
There weren't two guards, but seven.
I am so fucked.
