My throat closed up the moment I heard those words. My eyes widened and I looked in shock at Blaze.
"What do you mean he's been lying to me?" Anger took over and I pulled my hand out of Blaze's. He lowered his head and muttered something I couldn't hear.
"Blaze, I really want you to speak up so I could hear you." I almost growled at him. He pulled his head up and looked me in the eyes.
"Charlie took over our dad's gang." I let those words sink in. I remember he told me he didn't want anything to do with gangs and killing people and now he is taking over his dad's gang?
"Why?" I simply asked. I couldn't come up with anything else while my head was spinning with questions.
"I don't even know. I constantly asked him to come and do something fun with me, but he denied every time, saying he had better things to do. One night, I decided to follow him and found out he was now training to become a leader, but I don't get it. Why would they still want their gang when they know Criminal Minds stopped?" We both looked at Elliot who lowered his head.
"Well, there are more survivors than you think. A lot of people were able to escape through our secret passages and reached the outside before the building exploded. But Max did kill more than half our people." I sank down in the couch again and put my hands before my face.
"I really can't cope with this today. So you say me that Charlie has been training to become a leader of Bloodhounds, without saying anything to me? And you" I pointed at Elliot, "say that Criminal Minds is starting again with the people who survived the attack" They both nodded their head and I groaned.
"Just when I thought it was almost over." Blaze took my hand in his again and gave me the note he had in his hand.
"I found this on the ground in front of the tree this morning. I opened it, and I am sorry for that, but I know it's addressed to you. Read carefully Chloe, I know it's important." He let go of my hand and I slowly opened the note.
It was the last letter.
"Evil is everywhere. It's within us all. Even the nicest people could be the ones who betray you the moment they get their chance. Even your best friends could be the real enemies.
That's why I didn't trust anyone.
If you trust someone, you tell them everything. You want to show them you don't hold anything back for them. But I learned that trust is nothing, it means nothing, not when the person you trust is really evil.
So, tell me Chloe, do you know evil?
I do, and it's closer than you think it is. Take a good look around you and you know it. I am sure of it.
Take a good look at the letters.
Take a good look at everything that has happened.
You will know.
I love you to death, Jamie and Chloe, and I will never forget you. Everything I did was because I love you, remember that."
I looked at the letter and read it over and over again. Evil was nearby. That means the killer is someone I know, someone I trust.
Damn, how could I ever kill one of my friends?
I looked at the paper once more and put it in my pocket. I stood up and looked at Blaze and Elliot.
"Guys, I really need to get going. Thank you so much for your help." I walked to them and gave them a quick hug. I knew what I had to do.
I was going to pay a visit to Charlie.
I waved at the guys when I was safely at the ground again and turned around. I didn't have the time to walk, so I picked up my pace and ran. I ran all the way to my house. When I finally arrived there, I was completely out of breath. I opened the door from our house and was greeted with silence. I walked to Jamie's room and saw him lying in his bed, peacefully sleeping. I smiled a small smile and closed the door.
I walked to my window and whispered for Charlie. After a couple of minutes, his head showed in the window frame and he slightly smiled.
"Chloe, I'll come to you." He said while slipping on his pants and climbing over the balcony to my room. When he stood right in front of me, he wanted to kiss me, but I didn't let him. I took a step back and looked him in the eyes."Why did you lie to me?" I said with the most demanding tone I've ever used. I don't want to play around anymore, I want to know the truth.
"What did I lie about?" he asked, his voice a little too small for my liking. He took his hand in mine and pulled me closer.
"I really don't know what you are talking about." I was getting impatient and pulled back out of his grasp.
"About you becoming the new leader of Bloodhounds Charlie! It didn't occur to you that I could help you? Or maybe you could help me, since I found the last letter. But all you do these days is avoid me, and I am sick and tired of that." I wasn't going to cry, because I was way too mad at him for that.
"I am sorry I lied Chloe, but I just had to keep it a secret. I didn't want you involved again in this shit, I care too much about you. And you didn't need the last letter, because we both know who the killer is, don't we?" my eyes widened at his words.
"You know who the killer is and you didn't tell me?" Anger was raising again and I practically shot daggers at him.
"Of course I can't say it is a hundred percent true, but it is quite obvious it has to be Elliot." I crossed my arms and I looked at him skeptically.
"Elliot? You only say that because you don't like him." Charlie crossed his arms too and raised his eyebrow.
"So, Elliot betraying you isn't shady?"
"No, it isn't Charlie! He sacrificed a lot for us and for his standards, so how could you accuse him?" I sighed and took his hand in mine. "But that's not the point. The point is you lied to me, and I don't know if I can forgive you for that. It is a pretty big thing you held back." He looked at our hands and smiled a bit.
"But Chloe, I am not the only one who lied in here." I raised my eyebrow and looked at him.
"Excuse me?"
"You didn't think I was so stupid to let it be? That one time when you and Jamie had me on the screen? I figured it all out. Jamie accused me of being the murderer, didn't he?" My eyes widened and I wordlessly nodded my head.
"Then why didn't you tell me?" I looked down and stayed silent.
"That's what I thought. We both held back some things, but it's only to keep the other satisfied. I don't want to fight about this, so lets get back to being just the normal boyfriend and girlfriend." He pulled me closer and kissed me until my lips were a little bit swollen and tasted like him.
I began to doubt everyone in my life.
Who could be the killer?
"I can see you have a hard time believing in me. I have a plan." Charlie said to me. "Tonight, you and I both come to the park, and I will make it up to you. I will show you I am worthy of your trust. Deal?" he looked me in my eyes and a big smile formed its way on my lips.
"Deal"
It was going to be the perfect night.
~
When Charlie was gone, I got ready to go. Jamie was still sleeping, but the moon was lightening up the whole sky. Unfortunately, it was about to rain, but that didn't stop me.
Before I went, I wanted to know who the killer was, so I grabbed all the letters and took them outside with me.
It was time for the truth.
