Milan
We'd been going at this case for hours, and had found ourselves in a loophole by now, trying to find a loophole or shortcut for our three clients.
Earlier this morning, I had a court trial, finishing up around lunch time and then had a meeting with the DA afterwards. Today had been excruciatingly long and right now all I wanted to do was go home, eat, and fall asleep in my fiancé's arms.
The headache I was now catching while listening to Aspen and Vynn Sanders argue for the third time was definitely starting to give me away.
Checking my gold wristwatch that read seven o'clock, I sighed while placing a hand on the table; covered in files, photos, and law books.
"We're getting nowhere with this, and especially with this," I waved a finger between the two of them, now standing. "Maybe we should separate for now, sleep on it tonight, then try again tomorrow."
Sighing as well, the two of them nodded in consideration and agreement. The three of us were tired, that much was for sure.
"You know what, that's perfect," said Sanders as he began packing up his briefcase. "I'm starving anyway."
"Me too," Aspen and I both said, causing us to glance soft grins at one another.
"Now that I think about it, doing this on an empty stomach was probably a bad idea," he chuckled. As did we.
"Let's get lunch tomorrow then, and meet back here," I suggested, packed breiface now in hand and heels clicking as we headed out of my office. "Sound good?"
"Works for me-"
"That's perfect," they answered in unison. "I'll see you ladies tomorrow. Have a goodnight," Sanders waved over his shoulder on his way to the elevator.
"Goodnight," Aspen and I called before she faced me as I was locking the door. "Plans tonight?"
"To sleep like a newborn after a nice dinner," I chuckled, making her smile on our way down the hall. "You?"
"I've got one more stop to make, then I'm headed home."
"To your boo?" I smirked, and her smile grew sheepish.
"Yes, to my boo," Aspen chuckled, soon nudging my shoulder with hers upon my teasing grin. "Shut up, Lan. Are we still on for next week though?"
I nodded, "yep," pressing the button as the elevator doors closed. It was a bridesmaids' dinner, just to get everyone acquainted and on the same page in these next few months leading up to the wedding. It reminded me right then to call my sister soon to make sure she was still coming.
"Alright well I love you," she spoke into our hug before we could part ways. "And tell Noah I said hi."
"I love you too Asp, and I will, you be careful," I called as she was walking to her car.
Walking to my own, or technically my fiancé's that she still refused to drive, another sigh eluded me as I took out my keys to unlock the doors. Wind blew at my coat and hair, more viscous and merciless at night than during the day.
The drive home was calm and quiet, every second of it filled with me longing to see her and just be. I was working just about every day now, even on my days off. And while Noah had insisted that she didn't mind it at all, I never wanted that to come between her and I. Because I know how I felt when she hardly spent any time at home. Away from me, in more ways than one.
Even though this was a little different, I still made sure to be more careful and attentive when it came to her. Never distant or too tired to love her the way she deserved.
