Omniscient
Gratitude... Also known as the art of noticing...
In the beginning, it starts off full, raw, and untouched.
As a new soul enters Earth, eyes full of wonder, and color, a spirit saturated with humility. Wearing it not just on their sleeve, but on their hands as their fingers run through a riverstream, and their tiny feet as it feels each speckle of grass. Ever so green, and ever so bright.
In the middle, it slips away.
Lost in the web of norms and expectations. In the journey of finding oneself, all while trying to appease others. In the labyrinth of purpose, and passion. Searching for something that had been there all along. Since the beginning...
And later, not at the end, but somewhere along the way... it comes back.
A product of love, nurtured, in its purest form. The appreciation of every day, of every breath. Every sunrise and sunset, every gray cloud and every thunderstorm, every cry, and every laugh. A simple 'thank you,' whispered into the carry of wind, to the gift of life.... For its every triumph, and every tribulation.
It was why she loved flowers, and botany.
Why she adored the spring and treasured the fall. Why she woke to witness the sun rise on some mornings, and why she simply slept in on others.
It was why she smiled brighter at the sight of her lover's, or at the sound of her laughter, and why she kissed her every morning and held her every night.
Grateful, for another year, and every year prior, Noah stretched a bit within their bed, eyes fluttering.
The spot next to her was empty, disappointing her slightly, and their room was dark from the closed curtains as reached for her phone. Reading the time, and the date, she simply exhaled, still waking up as she plopped flat on her back with a stare up at the ceiling.
'Forty-six...' she thought, finding herself smiling instead of groaning as she rolled out of bed, her sigh happy and content.
Today's date was November 29th.
Noah's birthday, in other words, and now a day that the woman merely appreciated rather than dreaded.
Aging had been the gift she never saw coming. Surprising her in more ways than one, and leaving her ever so thankful, for she had experienced a wealth that no money in the world could ever buy.
Serene from that alone, she left their bathroom after brushing her teeth and washing her face, swiping her glasses from the nightstand before ambling to their bedroom door.
Beating her to it with a knock, however, was Genesis, having come from downstairs to check on the woman.
At the sight of the little person in adorable pajamas standing before her, Noah smiled when opening the door, her brow lifting in amusement. Though it was met by the little girl's frown.
"What're you doing?"
"What're you doing?" Noah asked in playful suspicion, holding back a laugh when emphasizing the 'you.'
"Not important," Genesis took her hand, leading them back inside the room. "I need you to get back in bed."
"And why's that?" the woman chuckled, obliging nonetheless. "Where's your brother and where's Milan?"
While pulling the covers back over Noah's lap, Genesis made a face, muttering, "that's a lot of questions," while patting the comforter. Laughing with a bright smile, Noah shook her head. "Just sit here and look pretty, 'kay?"
