~ Five Years After The Wedding ~
Omniscient
Winter in Chicago was beautiful.
Snowfall dressed the ground white, along with the surface of buildings and the top of infamous city signs.
It fell like rain, but in slow motion, and with leisure.
Rain that beheld the intent to stay, rather than simply washing away. And the goal to imprint. Having those unfamiliar to it stop, and stare, and rendering a city ever so busy, quiet. With a calmness, a patience... With time.
Windows frosted, and heat warming their spacious home, a Christmas tree still remained up in the Jackson household.
Right along with it was the decorations in the kitchen, staircase, upstairs hallway where the bedrooms resided, the home office, the backyard, and the front lawn. Since it was only January 3rd, and celebrating New Year's had worn them all out in the best of ways.
Standing at a snowflake embroidered window pane, there stood a thirty-four year old Milan.
Her thick and dark hair, deeply wavy in its natural state, was long to her lower back now. Given that she had simply been letting it grow, ever since cutting it into a bob seven years ago. Not to mention, pregnancy only seemed to give every strand the 'Rapunzel' effect.
With the front of it tied back by the makeshift headband of a crème bandana, she wore oversized black sweatpants, a white long-sleeved shirt, and a thick and long crème cardigan.
The comfort fit of her shirt outlined her belly. Round and gravid, for she was in fact due last month.
It seemed as though their baby girl simply wasn't ready to leave her just yet. Which is great and all, Milan thought, rubbing her belly as she stood at the window of their nursery. She watched snow fall, in mesmerizing trickles from a baby blue sky.
Being pregnant had given her a glow like no other. Rendering her giggles often, and childlike, and introducing her to some of the best foods she had never even thought to try.
But oh was she ready for it to be over...
The kicks in her sleep, the random cravings, the constant peeing that felt never ending, the sudden gratifying exhaustion, the inability to bend over, and the uselessness of her entire wardrobe as of now...
Sometimes she would just take a walk in her closet, to brush her fingers across her numerous pairs of heels and shoes. Reminiscing, and pouting.
Painted on one of the walls in the baby's room, by their daughter Genesis, was a mural of a breathtaking lemon tree. Vibrant in color and essence, it was surrounded by animals, birds, and a beautiful garden of the most stunning flowers. Plus, it extended all the way up to the ceiling, where actual clouds resided, holding lights inside that glowed with warmth whenever the light switch was flipped.
It took her about six months to complete, for she had a little help in the areas where her height or age challenged her. Given that her parents didn't at all want her overwhelmed by the task, even though she had offered and insisted.
Leaving the sage green drapes open, for the view beyond it was far too beautiful to close out, Milan ambled back across the plush rug embroidered with green leaves. Where fuzzy socks dressed her swelled feet, for shoes and even house slippers had been out of the question months ago.
The waddle in her walk couldn't be helped as she strolled downstairs. She passed the foyer, the home office, and the living room on her way to their commodious kitchen. In search for her wife.
