Sort of a short, filler-like chapter. But ya'll need to prepare for what's gonna happen next...
-------"Do you guys need anything?"
Kirstie was standing in the doorway while Mitch and I were getting settled in the guest bedroom. We had finished cleaning up what we could in the kitchen. It was a mess.
I looked at the clock on the wall and saw it was already six in the morning.
"Nah, I think we're good. Thanks, Kirst."
She yawned as she nodded. "Well if you do, you know where to find me," she said as she gestured to her room. "Goodnight, babes...I mean good morning, I guess." She smirked and closed the door, leaving Mitch and I in silence.
I looked behind me and saw Mitch sitting at the edge of the bed. He wasn't saying a word as he just stared down at his hands in his lap.
"Mitch...are you okay?"
I took a seat next to him. He instantly grabbed my hand and locked his fingers with mine is his lap. He was shaking slightly.
"I'm so tired."
He sounded so small.
"Well babe, let's go to sleep, then," I said softly as I rubbed my thumb in smooth circles on the back of his hand.
He finally looked up at me. "I'm scared."
I squeezed his hand and he let his head rest on my shoulder as I laid my head on his. "I know, babe. I am too."
A few minutes of silence went on, but it felt like a year in the dark bedroom, only being lit by the dimness of a lamp by the bed next to us.
"It's all my fault," I said suddenly, making Mitch pop his head up to look at me.
"Stop, don't say that."
"But I-"
"It was going to happen anyway."
I looked down, avoiding his gaze. I can't believe I did this.
"Hey," he said softly.
I didn't look up until I felt his soft lips press gently against my warm cheek.
"Don't hate yourself, Scott. Besides...I'm not mad anymore."
"You're not?"
He shook his head. "No. I'm not." He brought my hand up to his lips and he kissed it. "We'll get through this together, okay?"
I gave him the best tired smile I could before I leaned my face closer to his. My eyes fluttered closed as soon as I felt his lips on mine. I was worried I would never feel that sensation again.
We broke apart from each other's lips and rested our heads against each other after I kissed his forehead.
"Let's go to sleep, yeah?"
Mitch kissed me on the lips again. "Okay."

6:25 am
"No....no....n-no...Mitch...MI-MITCH!"
I quickly sat up in the bed, panting heavily. There was a cold sweat all over my body. That was a horrible nightmare.
I used my shirt that I had laid on the floor next to the bed to wipe some of the sweat off my face.
I threw it back on the floor as I look on the bed beside me before resting my head in my hands.
"Mitch," I whispered.
No response.
Maybe he didn't hear me? How could he still be asleep?
I blindly felt around the bed, being it was still dark in there. Kirstie's curtains in here really worked to block the sunrise.
"Mitch?" I said a little louder this time.
I gave up my blind search and got up to turn on the light.
He wasn't there.
------
A/NOkay...seriously, I know I've been telling you that shit is going to go down.
But trust me, I am preparing you. I bet you can't even GUESS what's going to happen next. ;)Next chapter coming soon.
