Kevin stood up, confused. "What? I thought you wanted nothing to do with it.." He said as he walked over to the cabinet.
Scott walked back and sat at his place on the couch. "No, Mitch wants nothing to do with it.
I want this thing out of here."Kirstie looked at Scott with worry all over her face. "Scott, what are you doing?.. Mitch is going to be pissed-"
"-Only if he finds out." Scott interrupted as Kevin came back with the board in his hands, standing in front of them.
"So let's do this, quick."Avi stood and took the board from Kevin's hands, inspecting it with his eyes. "Scott, are you sure this is safe?"
Scott stood again and took the board from Avi. "I just want this thing gone, guys! No matter what it takes."
Kirstie stood next to Scott. "You sure?.."
Scott looked at down at the box in his hands, then back up at her.
"Yes."
----
They moved the coffee table more towards the middle of the living room after turning off all the lights. Only the faint light from the windows blending in. They all sat in a circle on the floor around it, Scott placing the board in the middle.
Scott looked up at Kevin at the other end of the table. "So.. How does this work, Kev?"
Kevin took a deep breath. "Um... Well basically you put your hands on this.... Then you ask a questions. Then the uh... Spirit, or um.. Demon, will move it beneath your fingers to either say 'yes', 'no', or it will spell out something."
Scott took a breath. "Simple enough.." He said as he slowly moved his hands to rest on the board. Kirstie put her hand on his shoulder. "Scott... I'm scared."
He kept his eyes on his hands. "Me too... But I need to do this."
She hesitantly nodded and removed her hand, slowly moving her hands on top of Scott's on the board. Soon Kevin and Avi doing the same.
Scott took another breath. He knew it was too late to back out now. Mitch would be getting back any time. He had too.
He closed his eyes, everyone else following suit.
"Is there anyone else in this room with us."
Silence. Nothing.
He waited a bit before he spoke.
"If there is anyone else in this room, make yourself known."
He waited.
Nothing.
"Please, let me know if you are here. Make yourself kno-"
All of a sudden, the object beneath their hands began to move.
Kirstie was shaking.
"Scott..Scott I'm serious right now stop it."Scott was now shaking as well. "I swear I'm not doing this."
Avi and Kevin were both wide eyed and speechless, their mouths agape.
They felt their hands come to a stop.
"Kirs, what does it say?.."
She looked and her face flushed white, then looked back at Scott.
"Yes."
All of their breathing hitched and their hearts beat faster.
"Okay, okay, um..."
He tried to think of another question quick, knowing his time was limited.
"What do you want from me?.."
He waited.
He could practically hear his heart in his ears as he waited.
It started to move again and they all breathed even quicker.
It stopped where it was closer to Avi.
"Avi, what does it say?" , Kirstie asked.
"M."
"Oh my goodness.." Scott said.
It started moving again and came to a stop, closer to Kirstie this time.
"Kirs?" Scott asked.
"I."
It moved again closer to Kevin this time.
"T."
It moved again towards Avi.
"C."
Scott could feel a tear go down his face. "Oh my god..." He said as it moved towards him and stopped.
"Scott?.." Kevin asked, all eyes on him.
Scott swallowed and choked out the letter.
"H." He nodded to himself and looked up from his hands, staring at a blank wall across from him.
"It wants Mitch."
