It was raining the night Sirius decided he couldn't do it anymore. The storm outside mirrored the one inside their small home—angry, relentless, and devastating. Y/N sat on the couch, a blanket draped over her lap, her face pale and drawn as she stared blankly at the wall. The silence between them was unbearable, only broken by the occasional crack of thunder.Sirius stood in the doorway, his arms crossed tightly over his chest, as though trying to hold himself together. He couldn't look at her. Not directly. Not at the hollow look in her eyes or the way her hands trembled slightly against the fabric of the blanket. She was trying to be strong, but he knew. Merlin, he knew she was barely holding on. And so was he."We can't keep doing this," he finally said, his voice low and uneven. It sounded foreign, even to his own ears.Y/N's head snapped up, her expression flickering with confusion. "What do you mean?"He took a deep breath, his heart pounding painfully in his chest. "I mean... us, Y/N. This. I can't do this anymore."Her face crumpled, and her voice cracked as she whispered, "Sirius, no... please, don't say that."He turned away, running a hand through his hair, fighting back the tears threatening to spill. "We've tried, Y/N. Over and over, we've tried. And every time, it's—" His voice broke, and he slammed his fist against the wall in frustration. "Every time, it's like we lose a piece of ourselves. A piece of you. I can't watch you go through this again."Her voice was raw, desperate. "I can't lose you, too. Please, Sirius, we can keep trying. We'll find a way."But Sirius shook his head, tears finally spilling down his cheeks. "And if we don't? What then? How many more times will we go through this before there's nothing left of us? I love you, Y/N, but I'm breaking. You're breaking.""I'll be enough," she begged, standing and taking a step toward him. "We don't need a baby, Sirius. Just stay with me."He flinched at her words, guilt clawing at his insides, but he couldn't stay. Not like this. "I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "I can't."And then he left, the door closing behind him with a finality that echoed through the empty house. Y/N collapsed onto the floor, her sobs drowned out by the storm outside. The ache in her chest was unbearable, as though her heart had been torn from her body. For Sirius, it wasn't easier. As he walked away, the rain mingling with the tears streaming down his face, he felt like he was leaving a piece of his soul behind. But in his mind, he convinced himself it was for the best.Even if it destroyed them both.
