There's things I wanna talk about,
but better not to give.
*
One afternoon, after a quick stop to pick up some medicine off-campus, you start toward Shiratorizawa's entrance—only to see three very familiar figures near the gate.
Pausing, you squint in confusion. It's surprising to see these three together at Shiratorizawa, though you can't quite place why it feels so odd. Before you can dig through your memory to remember what this scene is reminding you of, there's a flash of orange as Hinata leaps up, snatching a volleyball out of a tall, green-haired guy's hands.
Oh! That's it—this is that scene!
You speed up, half-jogging toward them, but unfortunately, it seems you're too late. Just as you arrive, you hear Ushijima's low, cold voice:
"I heard you both had Dynamite's favor. Seems you're nothing but arrogant fools."
Your steps falter, and you freeze, wide-eyed. Did Ushijima really say that in the original story?
Before you can even process this line, Hinata's sharp, defiant voice cuts through:
"Huh? So, you're that Ushijima guy Mr. Dynamite keeps talking about? Looking at you, I can't figure out what's so great that he's always going on about!"
Kageyama takes it even further. Glaring back at Ushijima, he says bluntly, "If Shiratorizawa is anything like you say, then—"
"It doesn't deserve DyAo—!" He's cut off by a blur of motion—you suddenly rush forward, startled and desperate, clamping a hand over his mouth. You glance at Kageyama's angry stare and shake your head firmly.
"Hey! Dynamitee!" Hinata shouts joyfully, his eyes lighting up the moment he sees you. He breaks into a grin, his usual huge, beaming smile filling his face as he calls your name.
Ushijima, for his part, seems baffled, watching you with an unfamiliar expression as he takes in the change of emotions crossing your face. Looking back at Hinata and Kageyama, it finally clicks that you might be closer to these Karasuno players than he'd thought. It even brings back a memory of how you often went to watch their games during the IH prelims.
'Maybe... maybe that orange-haired kid was actually telling the truth.'
The idea that you had spoken highly of him had never crossed Ushijima's mind, and you, meanwhile, were in full panic mode. At first, you'd come over to enjoy the "classic scene," but as you'd gotten closer, you'd realized just how aggressive everyone's energy was.
And how on earth had you ended up as the focus of the conversation?
What had Kageyama been about to say, anyway? You can't even let yourself think about it, just relieved you'd covered his mouth in time. In the original memory, this conversation was supposed to focus on the tournament—so how did it suddenly end up revolving around you?
Completely lost, you look around, trying to figure out what's even happening. But with Kageyama and Hinata fired up and completely unreliable right now, you're left with no choice but to turn to Ushijima for help—hoping maybe he has a better handle on this than you do.
Unfortunately, while Ushijima is reliable, picking up on subtle hints isn't exactly his strength. To him, your stare is less a plea for clarification and more just a serious look.
He blinks, a bit confused. 'Did I say something wrong?'
Instead of helping, Ushijima just lowers his head slightly, looking as if he's deep in thought over something he misunderstood. You feel a trickle of cold sweat. Please, don't use your talent for wild assumptions right now!
