Was it something I said,
to make you feel like you're a burden?
*
The next day, you and the rest of the Shiratorizawa team head to the Miyagi Sports Arena. Tendou has his arm around your shoulder, chatting animatedly, reminding you of what happened earlier: the minute you mentioned wanting to watch Karasuno's match, he'd practically dragged everyone else from Shiratorizawa along. Yesterday, there was the excuse of observing Karasuno's "weird quick attack." Today, however...no such reason.
Sensing your stare, Tendou raised his eyebrows and looked back at you, blue eyes wide with all seriousness.
"You don't understand, Dynamite!" he began. "While you were away, Shiratorizawa had countless training matches against Aoba Johsai. And I swear, they've learned that sneaky 'positional blocking' of yours! They're a handful now! Definitely working on countering our strong attacks!"
"You're one of our main offensive players, Dynamite, so today, you've gotta check out Aoba Johsai with us!"
Tendou's argument sounded flawless at first. But, of course, you caught a few details that didn't quite add up.
One: you wouldn't exactly call that move of yours a "signature trick." It's just filling in gaps, after all.
Two: Shiratorizawa's main attackers are Ushijima, Ohira, and Goshiki. Since when did you become a "main" attacker, with just a decent serve to your name?
And three...weren't you supposed to be watching Karasuno's match today? When did Aoba Johsai suddenly take priority?
You glance at Tendou's overly innocent expression, then decide there's no point arguing. It's Tendou, after all.
Noticing your resigned look, Tendou just grins wider. Ushijima, though not entirely understanding Tendou's logic, seems to approve nonetheless. To him, yesterday's "super-quick" attack wasn't a major threat; he left it to you and Tendou to figure out. But Aoba Johsai's "positioning moves"? He's even less worried.
Why? Because the inventor of that move—you—is right here with Shiratorizawa.
No matter how clever the technique, Ushijima has this strange feeling that if you're there, no "trick" can outsmart Shiratorizawa.
Unaware of how Ushijima sees your abilities, you're just as unimpressed with Aoba Johsai's "moves." After all, those tactics of yours, in your mind, aren't exactly hard to copy or counter.
So, the fact that Aoba Johsai managed to pick up on it? Hardly anything to fuss over.
With a slight smirk and hands casually in your pockets, you walk steadily alongside the Shiratorizawa team. Walking with them, you feel less tension than when you used to visit the arena alone with Ito. Turns out, having teammates around really does ease things—like they say, "Let the tallest one handle it when the sky falls."
You have no idea that, after the Inter-High, your sense of self-reliance has grown, even if only a little. So, you just attribute the calm feeling to the security of being surrounded by others.
Since Shiratorizawa is a seed team and currently on a bye, you're headed to the spectator area—but luck isn't on your side today. Right in the hallway, you run into a very familiar team: Aoba Johsai.
You arch an eyebrow in mild surprise, hoping you can blend into the crowd and let someone else handle greetings, particularly Ushijima, who's all about his usual "Join Shiratorizawa" opener. But then you realize—why is everyone from Aoba Johsai staring directly at you?
