Aside from that mess, there was another thing: third-year homeworks.
With the next Spring High games pushed to next year, most of the team had started prioritizing academics alongside daily training.
The third-years, who usually spent more time on sports than studying, naturally lagged behind in academics. Add to that their complex and heavy senior-level subjects, and it's no wonder the situation was causing them a fair amount of trouble.
So far, everything seemed normal.
Until you finished your training, only to find yourself suddenly surrounded by a group of senior guys who dragged you into a small, dimly lit room.
...This tutoring session was about to take a very strange turn.
You idly twirled a pen in your hand, your deadpan eyes fixed on your teammates, who looked even more serious than they would at match point during a volleyball game.
I mean, tutoring Hinata and Kageyama from the same grade? Sure, fine. Even helping Nishinoya and Tanaka from a grade below? I could let that slide.
But asking me—a first-year who's only been in high school for six months—to tutor third-years? That's just insane!
You took a deep breath, now in a state of complete disbelief.
Okay, fine. I have studied senior-level material before, but you all think I'm just a "normal" first-year, don't you?
Whose genius idea was it to make me your tutor?!
Meanwhile, on the volleyball court, Goshiki suddenly sneezed mid-practice.
Shirabu, standing nearby, shot him a deadpan look, clearly unimpressed with Goshiki's unusually bright eyes and overly enthusiastic expression.
"...What's up with you today?" Shirabu finally asked, his tone laced with disdain.
But instead of wilting under Shirabu's judgmental stare, Goshiki seemed unaffected. In fact, he looked even more energized, practically exhaling steam from his nostrils.
After listening to Goshiki proudly explain how he managed to "set up" you as the third-years' tutor, Shirabu could only look at him with an increasingly strange expression.
'So that's why I haven't seen that training maniac today,' Shirabu thought.
'But why is he so happy about it? Does he seriously think he won't figure out who's behind this and mock him into the ground later?'
Shirabu shook his head, glancing at Goshiki, who was utterly convinced he had done something helpful.
'Well, whatever. I've got to give him some credit—managing to rope him into this is no small feat.'
Back in the small room, the tutoring session was progressing—slowly but steadily. Thankfully, Ushijima and the others had a much stronger academic foundation than Hinata or Kageyama. That alone saved you from the brink of a complete mental breakdown.
This must be what they mean when they say, "Comparison makes all the difference," you thought, sighing.
Thanks to Goshiki's "help," you now had to juggle maintaining your training schedule, mastering your signature jump float serve until it became second nature, and keeping tabs on the academic progress of a group of third-years.
