I can believe things that are true and things that aren't true,

and i can believe things where nobody knows if they're true or not.

Despite the chaos around you, you could only twitch slightly at Hoshiumi's words. All you heard was him calling your receiving skills ordinary.

In reality, Shiratorizawa's players weren't mad about the unintentional insult. What ticked them off was who had the nerve to say it. They were used to roasting you themselves—hearing it from someone else was just too much.

But soon enough, they realized all that trash-talking in practice wasn't for nothing.

Under his gaze, your blank expression shifted to one of mild annoyance. You shot him a cool look and replied in a flat tone:

"Oh."

"Doesn't really matter, does it?"

He froze, staring at you in disbelief as you stood at the net. With your height, you couldn't help but look down at him a little. You even raised an eyebrow, sounding almost confused as you continued:

"After all, I scored when I was attacking with the youth team. And that last receive just now..."

"...also scored, didn't it?"

Each word hit him like a truck.

He hung his head, expression hidden, and suddenly stumbled back. Hirugami quickly reached out, fumbling to catch him.

You turned to head back to your spot when a furious yell exploded from behind:

"DYNAMITE—! YOU JERK!"

Your back stiffened. You looked to your side at Yamagata, eyes wide in confusion. Did I say something wrong? Was there a problem with what I said?!

Panicked, you were only met with Yamagata, who had his head down, shoulders shaking with barely-contained laughter. He even gave you a thumbs-up.

The little episode ended quickly, and the game continued. On one side, Hoshiumi's eyes were practically spitting fire. On your side, you were desperately trying to figure out a way to break through.

But the match was changing too fast for you to waste time. Just running back and forth to receive and block was taking all your focus. Plus, you'd forced a few spikes through, only to get blocked each time.

To be fair, Kamomedai's blockers had picked up on one of your few weak points—your jumping. But even then, they weren't letting their guard down for a second. They stayed just as focused as Ushijima at the net, always putting up a three-man block.

Maybe it was because of Hoshiumi's failed trash-talk, or maybe because Shiratorizawa was already on the edge, but this set was a whole different story. The score stayed neck-and-neck, nothing like the huge gap from the last set.

The audience was on edge, hearts practically beating out of their chests as they watched the score bounce back and forth. One moment Shiratorizawa was ahead; the next, Kamomedai stole the lead, making the crowd gasp in shock.

"Huff... huff..."

Heavy breathing echoed in your ears, oh...it was your own.

Your face stayed blank, but the labored breaths were a dead giveaway. Even you couldn't hide the toll this high-intensity game was taking. Running all over the court, trying to cover for the blocks, was draining your stamina fast.
