The haldi ceremony had finally ended about an hour ago. Everyone had returned to their rooms to freshen up before regrouping for the grand lunch they had planned.
The entire resort buzzed with happiness and laughter, radiating a glow that matched the bride and groom's. The turmeric had left an incredible shine on their faces, a testament to the joyous occasion.
As promised, everyone gathered in the dining hall, looking refreshed and ready. They sat around a large table, eagerly awaiting the meal. Shivani, however, wore a different glow-one born less of turmeric and more of happiness. Yet, her joy was tempered with concern. She was searching for her husband, Abhimanyu, who had left abruptly after receiving a serious phone call that left him tense and withdrawn.
He had promised to join her for lunch, but he was nowhere to be seen. Her eyes scanned the room, and her restlessness caught the attention of Anvi's mother.
"What happened, beta?" she asked kindly.
"Voh... Abhi..." Shivani replied hesitantly, her voice trailing off. Anvi's mother smiled warmly. Noticing a few people were still absent, she said, "I saw him near the pool area. Go and call him."
Shivani's attention finally shifted to her. She hesitated, feeling torn between leaving and staying since lunch was about to start. Anvi and Vivek were already seated.
"We'll wait," Anvi's mother reassured her. "Go. I know you'll be restless without him, and how can I let my daughter feel so uneasy? You're no less than Anvi to me."
The heartfelt words brought a smile to Shivani's face. She squeezed the older woman's hand affectionately before leaving for the pool area.
As she approached, her eyes found Abhimanyu, but he wasn't alone. Rakshit stood beside him, both engaged in what appeared to be a serious conversation. It was then Shivani realized that Rakshit had also been missing from the table.
From her position, she could only see their backs, so they didn't notice her. Curiosity tugged at her, and she took a step closer. Just as she neared them, they turned, halting her in her tracks.
Abhimanyu's gaze met hers, but it lacked the warmth it usually held. Without a word, he walked toward her, took her hand, and led her to an isolated room far from the dining hall. Shivani's heart quickened with unease, realizing something serious was unfolding. Meanwhile, Rakshit went in a different direction after Abhimanyu instructed him to bring Ritika.
Once inside, Abhimanyu closed the door. Shivani waited anxiously, but before she could ask anything, his voice broke the silence.
