Shivani's pov:

"Yeah, all good. How was the surgery?" he asked, his smile faltering.

"Forget that for now. Let me check you. Remember, you promised I could check after the surgery," I said, cutting him off mid-sentence. I wasn't about to let him dodge this conversation.

Suddenly, he stood up, turning his back to me almost too quickly. I could've sworn I heard him wince. My suspicion deepened. "I'm fine, really. No need. I checked myself earlier," he said, his voice too firm, his gaze fixed anywhere but on me.

I wasn't buying it. "I still want to check. You're not getting away that easily," I insisted, my tone firm, refusing to back down. There was definitely something wrong, and I needed to know what.

"No need, love. Seriously, I'm fine. I just... bumped into her. It's nothing," he said, still avoiding my eyes. But his words rang hollow, and he didn't realize that I already knew the truth.

Bumped into her? He didn't just bump into her-he had shielded me, taking the hit for me. His lie hung heavy between us, and I could feel my chest tighten with both anger and concern. Why was he lying to me?

"Abhi, do you remember the statue game we used to play in our college days?" I asked, trying to keep my voice light, though my heart was pounding.

He chuckled softly, his voice distant as if recalling the memory. "Yeah, how could I forget? You made me promise to stand still whenever you said the word, and then you'd do all sorts of silly things. Why?"

He was still facing away from me, his body stiff and guarded, the tension radiating from him. I could hear the unease in his voice, though he was trying to hide it.

"Because..." I dragged the word out, watching his posture closely. "Abhi, statue!"

Just as I hoped, he froze in place, instinctively following the promise we had made years ago. A small smile tugged at the corner of my lips despite the heaviness in my chest. He had always kept his promises, and this one was no exception.

I moved slowly, walking around him until I was standing right in front of him. He stood perfectly still, just as I wanted. His eyes met mine, a flicker of surprise and confusion in them.

"You can't move. Remember the promise you made four years ago," I whispered, locking my gaze with his.

As I lowered my eyes to his chest, I reached for his shirt, which was buttoned all the way up, covering him completely. The moment my fingers touched his shirt, he realized what I was about to do. Panic flashed in his eyes, and he tried to take a step back.
