Shivani's pov:

I watched as my mother-in-law gently placed a kiss on Abhi's forehead while he slept peacefully. They had all just returned, their faces etched with worry and tension upon discovering how serious his condition really was.

When they asked me how it happened, I felt a wave of guilt wash over me. I had to lie and say someone had accidentally bumped into him with hot coffee, not being careful.

What else could I say? That a girl obsessed with my husband had burned him in a fit of jealousy because I was his wife? It sounded absurd, even to me.

"Hey Bhagwan, uss insan ke baal jhar jaye, dekhe ke nahi chalte hai aaj kal ke log?"
( Oh God, may that person lose all their hair. Don't they know how to walk in this day and age?")

My mother-in-law muttered, her voice laced with frustration. It was hard to believe that just moments ago, she had been crying over her son's injuries, and now she was cursing the very person responsible for them.

But I knew her well; beneath her fierce words lay the heart of a mother. She may have pulled Abhi's leg in jest at times, but her love for him was undeniable, fierce, and protective.

"He must be in so much pain. I hope he heals soon," my mother said softly, running her fingers through Abhi's hair, her touch tender and soothing. I looked down, a pang of guilt settling heavily in my chest.

I couldn't shake the feeling that it should have been me enduring this pain, not him. He didn't deserve to suffer like this, especially because of someone else's jealousy and cruelty. The weight of the situation pressed down on me, and I fought back the tears.

My hand clenched into a fist as rage bubbled inside me, threatening to spill over. I could feel the anger coursing through my veins, but I stayed silent, knowing it was best not to speak when I was this upset. "You're okay, right, beta?" My dad's voice broke through my storm of thoughts as he noticed me sitting quietly in the corner, watching everyone. I nodded, not trusting myself to speak. When I'm angry, fewer words are always wiser.

"Don't worry, he'll get well soon," my father-in-law said gently, and his words made my eyes well up with unshed tears. Before I could say anything, my dad chimed in, "And we're all here, right? Together, we'll take care of everything and make sure he recovers quickly." His comforting words softened something in my chest, and I could feel the tears pressing harder behind my eyes.

"And besides," my mother-in-law added with a shaky laugh, wiping her own tears, "he never knows how to rest anyway. Maybe this will teach him a lesson." The mix of humor and sadness in her voice broke something in me, and a small, shaky laugh escaped my lips, followed by a flood of tears.

" Hey....He'll be alright, beta, don't worry," my mom whispered, her hand rubbing gentle circles on my back. Her touch, soft and familiar, grounded me, and I nodded, trying to hold on to the hope in her voice.

Rakshit, always the one to lighten the mood, spoke up, "If you and bhabhi start crying, Abhi won't be able to rest at all!" His attempt to tease me and console my mother-in-law brought a small smile to my lips, and I looked at him gratefully.

"And di, don't steal all the attention by crying. Jiju barely gets the spotlight, let him have it this time!" Ritika teased, her playful words breaking the tension in the room. Laughter followed, soft but genuine, and for a moment, the heaviness lifted.
