Hinata perched on top of a tree at the border of the Land of Fire, her gaze sharp as she signaled Ino from the other tree. With a slight nod, Ino focused her chakra, preparing to execute her sensory jutsu and scan the area for any unfamiliar chakra signatures. Hinata activated her Byakugan, keeping a careful watch. Neji, positioned on an adjacent tree, followed suit, his own Byakugan coming to life as he scanned the surroundings. Shikamaru, hidden in the shadows, observed carefully while Lee stood at the top of a tall tree, looking out with a relaxed yet attentive posture.
Kiba, in his dog form, lay nestled in the underbrush with Akamaru by his side, seemingly oblivious to the situation. Choji was positioned about 200 meters from Neji and just a little over a hundred meters from Shikamaru, forming a wide perimeter with the others. Ino's powerful sensory abilities ensured that their entire team's senses reached all the way to the edges of the border, covering a huge expanse.
"Formation complete," Hinata reported, her voice steady. Her Byakugan's field of vision expanded to a full 359 degrees, covering a radius of five kilometers. Neji, however, was operating on a different level altogether, his Byakugan granting him a perfect 360-degree view and a range of up to eight kilometers. Ino, with her incredible sensory jutsu, could feel every movement, every flicker of chakra across the vast stretch of land. Truly, she was unmatched in her craft.
A small bird suddenly landed on Shikamaru's hand, a scroll tied to its leg. With a furrowed brow, Shikamaru broke the seal and read the message, quickly relaying the information to everyone using Ino's mind-link technique. The message was brief but urgent: Kiba, Hinata, Neji, Lee, Tenten, report back to Hidden Leaf as soon as possible.
Without a word, the team snapped into action, their bodies responding instinctively. Within moments, they were running toward the village with surprising speed. Hinata, although not accustomed to such intense bursts of speed, pushed herself forward, ignoring the exhaustion creeping up on her. Neji and Lee, on the other hand, barely seemed winded. For them, this was nothing more than a casual evening stroll. They moved as if they were on a leisurely jog, their strides effortlessly covering the distance.
Tenten and Kiba kept pace, though they were clearly pushing themselves harder than usual. After two days of constant vigilance and watching the border, their muscles ached, but they didn't slow down. The Hidden Leaf gates loomed in the distance, and in under 20 minutes, they reached them, breathless but determined.
Without wasting any time, they dashed straight to the Hokage's office, the gravity of the situation pressing down on them. Inside, Hiruzen stood, a stern look on his face as he quickly explained the mission.
"There is an urgent A-rank mission," the Hokage began, his voice sharp. "The Kazekage, Gaara of the Sand, has been kidnapped. The Akatsuki, a dangerous criminal organization, are after the tailed beasts. Gaara is the host of Shukaku, the One-Tailed Beast, and they are their first target. We believe Gaara is near death and must be rescued immediately."
He continued, his tone growing more serious. "You must retrieve Gaara at all costs. Do not engage unless absolutely necessary. Once you have him, return him to the Hidden Sand as quickly as possible. Their medical teams have been wiped out—only a few rookie medics remain. Kankuro, Gaara's brother, is gravely injured as well, and we are doing everything we can to help him."
"The Hidden Sand cannot afford to lose another Kazekage so soon after the death of the previous one," Hiruzen's assistant added. "You have 24 hours to reach the Hidden Sand and complete the mission. There will be no room for error."
The team exchanged glances, the weight of the task settling in. Without further hesitation, they made their way to the hospital to meet the medical squads. The medical ninjas, though clearly strained, moved with impressive speed, keeping up with the shinobi's pace despite their own fatigue.
