(I KNOW I AM 2 DAYS LATE ON SCHEDULE, THIS CHAPTER WAS HUGE)
Neji and Lee sprinted at the top of their speed, the scorching desert sand finally thinning beneath their feet as the terrain shifted. The oppressive heat gave way to the shade of a dense forest. Their breaths were heavy, but they pushed forward, driven by the urgency of their mission.
The sound of a river reached their ears, and the rushing water was a brief reminder of how far they had come. But there was no time to rest. Their destination was just ahead—the Akatsuki cave.
Neji suddenly came to a stop, his Byakugan flaring to life as veins bulged around his pale eyes. His gaze pierced through the dense trees and jagged rocks ahead. "Lee..." His voice was low but tense, causing Lee to halt and turn back toward him.
"What is it, Neji?" Lee asked, his fists clenching as he saw the grim expression on his teammate's face.
"I see two chakra signatures," Neji said slowly, his voice trembling slightly. "One is faint... barely alive... That must be Gaara..." His eyes narrowed further, focusing on the second presence. "But the other..." His voice faltered, his widened eyes filled with unease. "The second chakra signature is huge. It's strong... Intimidating."
Lee's face twisted in fury. "Then we don't have time to waste! Gaara is counting on us!" Without another word, Lee took off, his speed increasing as Neji followed closely behind.
As they approached the cave, the sight of destruction met them. The massive boulder that once sealed the entrance was shattered into jagged pieces, scattered across the ground like broken shields. Water from the nearby river trickled into the cave, pooling shallowly inside.
And there, sitting lazily on top of Gaara's limp body, was Deidara. His cloak was slightly torn, and he looked as if he'd just finished a grueling battle. Gaara's body lay soaked in the shallow water, motionless, his once-commanding presence now reduced to a shell of what it had been.
Deidara glanced up at the sound of their footsteps, his sharp blue eyes gleaming with amusement. "Well, well. Look what we have here," he drawled, a smirk spreading across his face. "The cavalry's here, huh? Took you long enough, yeah."
"Get off of Gaara!" Lee shouted, his voice shaking with rage as he saw the lifeless figure of his friend.
Deidara chuckled, brushing some imaginary dust off his cloak. "Oh, this? Don't worry about him. He's just... taking a little nap." He tapped Gaara's head lightly with his foot, his grin widening as Lee's fists trembled. "What's the matter? You mad, green boy?"
"Stop it!" Lee yelled, taking a step forward, but Neji placed a hand on his shoulder, stopping him.
"Lee, calm down," Neji said firmly. "He's provoking you."
Deidara tilted his head, his smirk growing into a full-blown grin. "Listen to your friend, yeah. He's got a good head on his shoulders. Unlike your little Kazekage here." He nudged Gaara's body again, this time harder, causing it to shift slightly in the water.
"You—!" Lee growled, taking another step forward, his anger barely contained.
Deidara laughed, a mocking, almost sing-song sound. "Man, you Leaf shinobi are so predictable. Charging in all emotional, thinking you can save the day. It's honestly kind of pathetic, yeah."
"Enough of your games!" Lee shouted. "How dare you treat Gaara like this? He's a strong shinobi, the Kazekage of the Hidden Sand!"
"Strong?" Deidara snorted, shaking his head. "You call this strong?" He gestured down at Gaara with a sneer. "He couldn't even protect his little village without relying on the big, bad-tailed Beast inside him. And guess what? We took that too. Now he's just another weakling."
