"Oy, Orochimaru..." Sasuke called out, his voice steady but strained, his breath uneven from the toll on his body, even after Tsunade's healing.
"What is it, Sasuke?" Orochimaru replied, his sharp gaze fixed on the road ahead.
"The Hyuuga compound... it seems a little too quiet," Sasuke murmured, his brows knitting together.
"They have a meeting with the Hokage," Orochimaru said matter-of-factly, his eyes remaining on the path.
Rain poured down in sheets, the droplets striking them relentlessly, soaking their hair and clothing. The thunder boomed overhead, its roar almost masking the sound of their footsteps. Then, Sasuke caught it—a faint, distinct noise that didn't belong to him or Orochimaru.
A third set of footsteps.
"WAIT!"
Hinata's cry broke through the storm. She appeared in the distance, her mid-length hair plastered to her face, her breath labored as she ran. It was clear she'd pushed herself to her limit to catch up.
"Wait..." she called again, slowing to a stop before them, hands on her knees as she caught her breath. Rainwater dripped from her chin as she tried to steady herself.
Sasuke turned back to face her, his expression unreadable. "Yeah?"
Hinata straightened, still catching her breath. "I... I need a favor. Can you please give this to Naruto-kun? I won't get a chance to see him anytime soon..." She extended her hands, offering a neatly folded cloth tied securely with a bow. The rain had soaked it through, but her grip on it was firm.
Sasuke glanced at the package, his sharp eyes scanning it briefly before he nodded. "I'll give it to him."
Sasuke frowned slightly. "You're the heir, aren't you? Shouldn't you be at the meeting?"
Hinata shook her head, her wet hair swinging slightly. "I didn't go on purpose... I wanted to finish making this. Something told me I had to finish it today... and I'm glad I did."
Hinata exhaled a small sigh of relief. "Thank you," she said softly, bowing her head.
Sasuke's gaze lingered on her for a moment before he replied, "Don't bow to me. You're the heir—I'm not." His voice was calm, yet firm.
Hinata blinked, then gave him a small, sincere smile. "Thank you, Sasuke-san." She turned to leave but paused, her voice softer now. "I should go before anyone finds you. Or me... or whoever that is with you."
Without waiting for a response, she sprinted back toward the Hyuuga compound, her form quickly disappearing into the rain.
Sasuke watched her go before turning to Orochimaru with a faint smirk. "That dobe found himself a keeper."
Orochimaru didn't comment, his gaze fixed ahead. With a silent nod, Sasuke resumed his pace, the two continuing their journey through the storm, their footsteps swallowed by the thunder and rain
Meanwhile
"Damn it! Why can't we go there?!" Naruto shouted, his voice echoing through the quiet woods. His fists clenched tightly at his sides, his face flushed with anger.
"Calm down, Naruto!" Sakura snapped, though her voice betrayed her own frustration. She sat on a fallen tree trunk, her head resting in her hands as she fought to keep both Naruto and herself from spiraling further.
Naruto paced in circles, his agitation growing with every step. Sakura glanced up at him, her lips pressed into a thin line. She couldn't deny that she felt the same—a restless, gnawing worry—but they had to stay focused.
"Damn it..." Sakura muttered under her breath, her gaze lifting instinctively toward the path ahead. That's when she saw them—two figures sprinting toward the village.
Her eyes narrowed as she strained to make out their features through the rain and shadows. When recognition hit, her breath caught.
"Kakashi-sensei..." she whispered, watching as her former teacher and another unfamiliar jounin passed through the clearing without sparing a glance in their direction. They moved with purpose, urgency evident in every step.
Her mind raced. "Wait... did they get called back? Did Sasuke-kun, Tsunade-sama, and Jiraiya-sensei get caught?" she mumbled aloud, but quickly shook her head.
"No. The Legendary Sannin wouldn't be taken down so easily..." She stared at the muddy ground, but her heart clenched.
"But Sasuke..."
Naruto suddenly stopped pacing and turned to her, determination burning in his eyes.
"Sakura-chan, we're taking a sneak peek. I need to know what's going on!" he declared, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Sakura stood abruptly, her hands on her hips. "We can't, Naruto! As much as I want to know too, we have to trust them. Our masters have a plan, and we'll only mess things up if we interfere!"
Naruto growled in frustration and threw himself onto the ground, sitting with his arms crossed. "This is so stupid! How can they expect us to just sit here while everything's happening over there?"
Sakura sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "I get it, okay? But losing our heads won't help anyone."
The two sat in tense silence for a moment, the rain falling steadily around them. Sakura stared at the drenched forest floor, her mind spinning with possibilities.
Finally, Naruto broke the silence, his voice softer now. "Sakura-chan... what if something happened to Sasuke? Or Tsunade-baachan? Or even Pervy Sage? What if they need us?"
Sakura's chest tightened at his words. She felt the same fear, but admitting it out loud made it more real.
"I don't know, Naruto..." she said quietly. "But rushing in without a plan will only make things worse. We have to believe in them. That's all we can do right now."
Naruto frowned, his eyes fixed on the ground. He hated feeling helpless—hated waiting. But Sakura's words lingered in his mind, and for now, he stayed put.
Suddenly, a faint rustle broke through the sound of the rain. Both of them froze, their senses sharp.
"Did you hear that?" Naruto whispered.
Sakura nodded, her hand instinctively reaching for a kunai. "Stay alert."
The rustling grew louder, and closer. The two stood, backs to each other, scanning their surroundings. A shadow shifted in the trees, and then another.
"Who's there?!" Naruto called out, his voice firm despite the tension in the air.
From the shadows emerged a figure, cloaked and hooded, their face obscured. They stepped forward slowly, their presence unsettling yet oddly calm.
"Relax," the figure said, their voice smooth but unfamiliar. "I'm not here to fight. But I do have a message..."
Naruto and Sakura exchanged wary glances. "A message?" Sakura asked, her kunai still raised. "From who?"
The figure's lips curved into a slight smirk. "From someone who's keeping an eye on your little team. Let's just say... your masters aren't the only ones with a plan."
