Kakashi's breath steadied.
Power returned to his limbs like a wave retreating and flowing back into shore. Beside him, Killer Bee straightened, dusting his coat with a tired grin, while Guy exhaled deeply, rolling his shoulder with a low groan.
Sakura stepped back, sweat beading at her temple but eyes sharp. Her chakra had done its job. The damage was healed—at least enough to stand and fight again.
Kakashi turned to her, voice low and grateful.
"Thank you, Sakura."
She only gave a short nod, already scanning for the next wounded. No time to talk. This was war.
Then Kakashi lifted his gaze—and met Obito's across the fog-cloaked field.
Obito stood on the back of the Ten Tails like a fallen god, cloaked in ash and hatred. His eye narrowed, his expression tight with a barely-contained storm. But Kakashi saw it.
That flicker. That shadow in his gaze.
Frustration.
Obito hated this.
He hated Naruto's persistence.
He hated that after all the cruelty, all the bloodshed, all the crushing truths he'd thrown at him—
Naruto still stood.
Still burning like a candle in a hurricane.
And for what?
"A dream?"
"Some fantasy about peace?"
"A future built on dead comrades and blind hope?"
It made no sense.
To Obito, it was stupid. Insufferably, agonizingly stupid.
"You don't even know what it's like... to lose EVERYTHING," Obito thought, his teeth gritted. "To be hollow... and still pretend there's light."
His fists clenched.
If words wouldn't shake Naruto, then actions would.
Obito's gaze dropped to the shinobi forces forming silently within the mist—their hope, their stubborn little alliance.
He could tear them apart in moments.
One attack.
One wide-ranged, merciless assault.
A blow large enough to wipe out half the battlefield in seconds. He could end their numbers, leave Naruto surrounded by corpses and echoes. That... that would shatter him.
"Let's see you smile through that," he muttered under his breath, his voice barely audible over the rumbling of the Ten Tails.
The beast responded to its master's rage.
Chakra swelled—dark, heavy, vile.
The air pulsed as if the sky itself was holding its breath.
Kakashi's eyes widened.
"He's planning something... Big."
Naruto's cloak flared behind him like a wildfire.
"Then we better stop it before he even begins."
The clock was ticking.
And Obito...
He was ready to end it.
The ground ruptured.
Dark, monstrous tails—twisted like roots of a cursed tree—shot out from beneath the battlefield, swiping and crushing in chaotic spirals. Screams erupted from shinobi caught off guard. The fog trembled, thinned, tore.
