The forest was dense, a thick canopy of trees swallowing the moonlight, casting fragmented shadows onto the moss-covered ground. Karin led the way, stepping carefully over roots and fallen leaves, her red hair glowing faintly in the darkness. Behind her, Sasuke walked in near silence, his movements effortless, concealed beneath a long black cloak that draped over his figure. His kitsune mask-etched with deep navy blue markings-covered his face, allowing only his sharp onyx eyes to peer through. The darkness suited him. The stillness, the quiet hum of the night-it all became a part of him.

Karin glanced back. "There's a village up ahead," she whispered, voice barely above a breath. "It's pretty big. Perfect for blending in."

Sasuke remained quiet, his gaze locked ahead.

Karin continued. "From what I can sense, Deidara and Kisame are traveling toward the Land of Stone. Most likely to target the Eight-Tails, Killer Bee."

Sasuke absorbed her words, his mind already working through the details. So, the Akatsuki was making their move. If they wanted Killer Bee, it meant they were getting closer to their goal-closer to sealing all the tailed beasts.

The town finally came into sight. Its streets flickered with dim lanterns, the distant murmur of people still awake, but the air carried a strange weight. Sasuke and Karin moved within the shadows, slipping between alleyways, avoiding the main roads.

Hours passed. They moved carefully, tracing their targets' presence through Karin's sharp sensory abilities.

Then, finally, they closed in.

Deidara was there.

But something was off.

Kisame had already left, advancing toward the Land of Stone. Yet, Deidara remained behind, lingering.

Sasuke frowned beneath his mask. Why?

Karin shifted uncomfortably, her senses sharp as ever. "Something isn't right," she muttered. "We're still a kilometer away, and he's... not moving."

Sasuke's grip tightened around his katana.

"They know," Karin whispered.

Sasuke's mind worked fast. No-there was no way Deidara could've sensed them from this far, not unless he had an informant, a sensor-type ninja backing him up, or...

Unless this was a trap.

Sasuke's eyes narrowed as he exhaled slowly, his focus sharpening. If Deidara was waiting for something-if he had stopped deliberately-it meant one thing.

They weren't the only ones hunting tonight.

Silence settled between them, thick with tension.

"What do we do?" Karin asked.

Sasuke's voice was low, cold. "We watch. We wait."

Karin nodded, trusting his judgment. The hunt had just begun.

The night was unnervingly still.

The air hung heavy, dense with the lingering scent of damp earth and aged wood. The market had long since emptied, leaving only the distant creak of rusted signs swaying in the wind and the occasional scuttle of a stray rodent. Shadows stretched across the cobbled streets, curling around abandoned stalls and crates, swallowing everything in a thick, inky darkness.

Sasuke stood in silence, a motionless figure cloaked in the void. The navy markings on his kitsune mask caught the dim flicker of the lantern above the sake shop, its glow just barely tracing the sharp cut of his jaw beneath the disguise. His arms remained folded, one foot crossed over the other, posture deceptively relaxed. But his eyes-those cold, piercing eyes-remained locked in quiet vigilance, watching, waiting.
