Sailub sat on the edge of his bed, his body slumped as he gazed at the ceiling, lost in thought. The soft, melancholic melody of a song filled his ears, each note tugging at the raw edges of his emotions. He felt as though he were drifting aimlessly through an ocean, with no land in sight. Lately, everything seemed uncertain—his future, his relationships, even his own sense of self. The weight of it all pressed down on him like a heavy fog. The only anchor in his life was Pon.
Pon, his childhood friend, his confidant, his constant in a world that often felt like it was slowly crumbling. Pon, with his laughter, could fill a room and make the darkest days feel a little brighter. Pon had always known exactly what to say when Sailub's mind became too loud when the world outside felt too overwhelming but recently, Pon had been different—distant, distant in a way that left a coldness in Sailub's chest. Texts went unanswered, plans were canceled, and Sailub couldn't shake the nagging feeling that he had somehow driven Pon away, or that maybe Pon had simply grown tired of him.
The thought of losing Pon felt unbearable like a piece of his heart was being ripped away. Sailub closed his eyes, trying to steady his breathing, letting the song wash over him. "Someone like you," the singer crooned, and the lyrics seemed to mirror the ache in Sailub's heart. He didn't just miss Pon—he longed for him. Somewhere along the way, their friendship had shifted into something deeper, at least for Sailub, and now, facing the possibility of losing that connection, the pain felt sharp and overwhelming.
Just as the weight of his emotions began to suffocate him, a sudden knock at the door startled him. Sailub's heart skipped, the quiet rhythm of his pulse suddenly louder in his ears. He glanced at the clock—far too late for a casual visit. He hesitated, unsure of what to expect. With shaky hands, he pulled off his headphones and crossed the room, unsure of whether he was prepared for what was about to happen.
When he opened the door, his breath caught. There stood Pon as if he had appeared out of nowhere. He was wearing the familiar gray hoodie, the one that was always just a bit too big for him but somehow made him look effortlessly perfect. His hands were shoved deep into the pockets of his joggers, and the hoodie's hood was pulled up, casting a shadow over his face. There was a subtle nervousness in the way he shifted his weight from one foot to the other, his eyes flicking briefly toward the floor before meeting Sailub's gaze. Neither of them spoke at first—there was a quiet understanding between them, a silent acknowledgment of the tension that hung in the air.
"Hey," Pon said softly, his voice low and almost hesitant. He glanced down the hall before looking back at Sailub, his expression guarded but somehow vulnerable. "Can I come in?"
Sailub stepped aside without a word, his heart pounding as he closed the door behind Pon. The room suddenly felt smaller, like the walls were closing in around them. The air seemed thick with unspoken words, the space between them charged with a mix of longing, confusion, and something else—something Sailub couldn't name but could feel in every inch of his skin. Pon's scent—a subtle blend of pine and warmth—filled the space around them, and for a moment, Sailub just stood there, absorbing the familiar comfort of it.
Sailub shifted uncomfortably, acutely aware of his own appearance. He was dressed in a simple black tank top and sweatpants, far from his usual polished self. But in the presence of Pon, all of that seemed irrelevant. There was something unspoken between them, something raw and real, that made the clothes and the setting fade into the background.
"What's going on?" Sailub finally asked, his voice soft but steady, though his heart was racing. "You've been...distant."
Pon let out a slow, heavy sigh. He ran a hand through his hair, the movement almost absentminded as he paced a few steps before stopping in the middle of the room. He seemed conflicted, his eyes flickering with a mix of hesitation and urgency. "I know. I'm sorry, Sailub. I've just..." His voice faltered for a moment, and he shook his head as though trying to find the right words. "I've been a mess...and the truth is, it's because of you."
Sailub's heart skipped a beat. "Me?" he repeated, his voice barely more than a whisper, his breath catching in his throat.
Pon turned to face him fully now, his expression one of quiet intensity. There was a vulnerability in his gaze that made Sailub's chest tighten. "Yeah, you. You mean everything to me, Sailub...a-and that scares the hell out of me. I didn't know how to handle it, so I pulled away. I thought I could just...keep my distance, but it only made everything worse...because the truth is, being away from you made me realize just how much you really mean to me."
Sailub's breath hitched. His heart pounded in his chest as he stepped closer, not able to resist the magnetic pull of Pon's words. "You mean everything to me, too," he whispered, his voice trembling with the weight of his confession. "I've been so scared of losing you but I can't keep pretending that I don't feel this way about you anymore. I just...I can't."
A slow, relieved smile spread across Pon's face, and Sailub felt a wave of warmth wash over him like the sun breaking through a stormy sky. "You're not going to lose me," Pon said, his voice barely above a whisper, but there was a certainty in his words that made Sailub's heart soar. "I don't want to lose you either."

Before Sailub could say anything else, Pon closed the distance between them and wrapped his arms around him in a tight, desperate hug. The warmth of Pon's body against his sent a shiver down Sailub's spine, but it wasn't cold—it was a warmth that made him feel safe, and grounded. For a moment, Sailub was frozen, unsure how to react, but then he melted into the embrace, his arms coming around Pon instinctively. It was as if the universe had finally aligned, and in this moment, in this hug, everything felt right.
"I've been feeling so lost," Sailub murmured, his voice muffled against Pon's shoulder. "But when I'm with you, it's like everything just...clicks. I feel like I finally know where I'm supposed to be."
Pon's grip tightened, and he pressed his cheek against Sailub's head, his voice soft in Sailub's ear. "You make everything better, Sailub. You always have."
They stood there in silence, wrapped up in each other, as the world outside seemed to fade away. There were no more doubts, no more fears—just the quiet certainty that they didn't have to navigate this uncertainty alone anymore. In each other's arms, they had found a kind of peace they hadn't known in weeks. And in that moment, the future, though unknown, didn't seem so frightening anymore.
Sailub pulled back just enough to look into Pon's eyes, his heart still racing but full of something else now—hope. A small, shy smile tugged at his lips. "So, what now?"
Pon chuckled, his smile warm and reassuring, brighter than Sailub had seen in what felt like forever. "Now, we figure it out. Together. One step at a time."
Sailub nodded, a sense of calm settling over him. "Together," he repeated, and for the first time in a long while, he didn't feel lost anymore. With Pon by his side, he felt found.
