A girl sat on the couch in the dimly lit living room, her favorite snacks strewn across the coffee table. The soft glow of the TV screen flickered against her face as she settled into her usual routine: watching a random show to unwind. It wasn't anything special—just a regular series—but for some reason, it had her thoroughly amused tonight.
The scene on the screen began to shift, gradually fading into a new storyline. It focused on a young man, Jeff, sitting alone in a small, dimly lit apartment. The weight of the world seemed to hang over him, his shoulders slumped under the invisible burden. He stared at his reflection in the window, eyes hollow, as if searching for answers within the glass. The city outside buzzed with life, the streets alive with the energy of a thousand stories. But inside Jeff's apartment, there was nothing but silence.
The stillness was broken by a knock on the door. "Jeff!" A familiar voice called from the hallway. It was his older brother, Charlie. The concern in his voice was unmistakable.
Jeff didn't turn at first. He just continued gazing out at the night. The world outside was dark, yet full of movement. Where am I going? he wondered, the thought swirling in his mind.
"What is it, Phi?" Jeff's voice was quiet, almost defeated, as he finally glanced at his brother. He wasn't sure how to explain everything that was running through his head. There was so much—so much pain and confusion.
"Are you fighting with Alan?" Charlie asked gently, a hint of worry creeping into his voice. It wasn't like Jeff to come over unannounced, especially at this hour, especially when he was like this—crying, the way he did when they first met in the foundation. Charlie had learned early on that Jeff wasn't the type to share unless he absolutely wanted to, but tonight... something was different.
Jeff closed his eyes, trying to push down the lump in his throat. "It's nothing, P'Charlie," he murmured, but his voice faltered.
Charlie didn't press, but his eyes scanned his younger brother's face, noting the redness around his eyes, the swollen, puffy look that could only mean one thing: Jeff had been crying for a while. It was clear that something deeper was bothering him.
"Come on," Charlie said softly, guiding Jeff toward the kitchen, "You've been through a lot. You need to eat something."
The words were gentle and comforting, but Jeff only shook his head, his chest tight with emotion. "I'm not hungry...I'm fine," he protested, though his voice lacked conviction.
"You have to eat, Jeff. At least a little bit, or drink this soymilk I made for you," Charlie urged, his concern not waning. He handed Jeff a small glass, his hands slightly trembling.
Jeff took the glass from his brother's hand, the cool liquid feeling like a strange comfort. He sipped it slowly, avoiding Charlie's gaze. "I already prepared your room for you," Charlie continued, his voice low. "Wash up and sleep, okay?"
But Jeff shook his head again, more firmly this time. "It's okay. I don't want to disturb you and P'Babe." His voice sounded hollow, distant.
Charlie paused, his brow furrowing. "P'Babe's with P'Alan right now. Do you want to talk to them? It's okay."
Jeff hesitated, the idea of facing Alan too overwhelming. "No, I'll go. I'll see you later," he said, his voice cold, though Charlie could see the tremor in his hands as he grabbed his keys.
Charlie felt an ache in his chest as he watched his brother leave, but he said nothing more. He knew Jeff had to figure things out on his own...even if it hurt him to see his younger brother so lost.

Later that night, Jeff found himself standing in front of a hotel, the harsh lights of the city surrounding him. He hadn't come here to rest. He'd come because he didn't know where else to go. His fight with Alan had shaken him more than he wanted to admit. It wasn't just a misunderstanding—it was something deeper.
