Alan had always envisioned starting a family with his husband, Jeff. For years, he had dreamt of the day they'd bring a child into their home, share bedtime stories, and teach them about the world but despite the depth of his love for Jeff and his eagerness to build a future together, Alan couldn't shake the anxiety that lingered in his chest. What if Jeff wasn't ready for such a big step? Or worse—what if he didn't want kids at all? Alan had been too afraid to bring up the topic, convinced it might destroy their relationship.
Instead, he turned to the only people he could confide in—his friends, North and Sonic. Although they were hardly the most reliable sources of advice, they were the only ones who made Alan feel less alone in his uncertainty. Still, deep down, Alan wasn't sure if trusting them was a mistake.
Sitting across from them in their usual hangout spot, Alan stared at the pool, the soft morning light casting a golden hue over the room. His thoughts were scattered, but his worry was all-consuming.
"What should I do?" he asked, his voice quiet and vulnerable, as he turned to his friends. "Maybe he'll reject the idea. Maybe...he doesn't even like kids at all."
Sonic, casually lounging on the couch with a bowl of popcorn in hand, barely looked up from the game he was playing with North on his phone. He chewed slowly, unbothered by Alan's anxiety. "Aow, Lung, you should just talk to Jeff. Why are you even telling us?" he said, grinning mischievously. His nonchalant tone only deepened Alan's frustration.
Alan shot them a look of disbelief, a kernel of popcorn bouncing off Sonic's head as he threw it in their direction. "Didn't you just hear what I said?" Alan's voice was tinged with annoyance. "I'm scared of what might happen if I do."
North, who had been focused on his game until now, let out an exaggerated sigh. He tossed his phone aside, leaning back on the chair with a look of feigned exasperation. "Lung, if you're this scared, then maybe you should just forget about having kids. You've got us, anyway. We'll be your kids!" he said, trying to lighten the mood, but the words felt more like an empty promise than reassurance.
Alan rubbed his temples in frustration, his nerves growing thin. "Why did I even talk to you two about this?" he muttered to himself, standing up abruptly. He was done with their halfhearted advice and ready to leave, but as he turned toward the door, Sonic perked up, suddenly seeming more alert.
"Phi!" Sonic exclaimed, his voice a little too loud for the moment, making Alan pause in his tracks. "Wait—what? Oh, I thought you were going to jump into the pool again, you know, like last time when you were about to confess to Jeff."
Alan froze, confused, and shot him an irritated look. "What?" he asked, his brow furrowing.
Sonic flinched slightly under the intensity of Alan's stare but quickly recovered. "Uh...we'll help you. Just be ready," he said, the awkwardness in his tone clear. He exchanged a glance with North, who nodded solemnly, though Alan wasn't sure whether that was meant to reassure him or make him even more apprehensive.
Alan gave them a skeptical look, still not fully trusting the chaotic duo. Every time he turned to them for support, they ended up saying something offbeat or downright strange to Jeff, which only made his anxieties worse. He nodded slowly, not wanting to dismiss their offer, but his trust in them was thin. "Yeah, sure," he muttered, his voice heavy with doubt.
Without another word, Alan turned and walked inside the house, the door closing softly behind him. The weight of the conversation lingered, and despite Sonic and North's attempts to offer help, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was on his own with this decision. Would he ever find the courage to speak to Jeff? Only time will tell.
🍼
Jeff was just about to open the garage when he heard a faint cry coming from the entrance. At first, he assumed it was a stray animal, but the sound grew louder, unmistakably that of a baby. His heart skipped a beat as he looked down, and to his astonishment, he saw a small, bundled-up baby lying in a basket at his feet. The sight sent a strange jolt through his chest—an unfamiliar, peculiar feeling—but he quickly dismissed it, focusing on the baby in front of him.
