This is a Pacific Rim-inspired AU, so I added the terminology for people who don't know the story.

Terminology (Pacific Rim):

Kaiju – Giant monsters from the ocean that attack human cities.

Jaeger – A giant robot piloted by two people to fight Kaiju.

Drift – Synchronizing two pilots' minds to control a Jaeger together.

Drift Compatibility – How well two pilots' minds connect for effective Jaeger control.

Neural Handshake – The mental link formed between two pilots before the Drift.

Elbow Rocket – A powerful rocket weapon mounted on a Jaeger's elbow for close combat.

Chain Sword – A chainsaw-like weapon on a Jaeger's arm for close-range Kaiju combat.

Plasma Cannon – A long-range energy weapon used to fire powerful plasma blasts.

Ejection System – A mechanism to eject pilots from a damaged Jaeger.

The Shatterdome – The base where Jaegers are stored, repaired, and coordinated.

J-Tech – The team responsible for maintaining and upgrading Jaegers.

"Jeff! Son!" His father's voice cut through the chaos, but Jeff couldn't find him. The city of Bangkok was being torn apart in a way he never thought possible. A Kaiju had appeared, and it was unlike anything he had ever seen. How did it get here? Bangkok was far from the Pacific Rim, too far for such a monster to crawl out of the sea. His brain couldn't even comprehend the destruction happening all around him. The ground shook beneath his feet as buildings crumbled, and the air was thick with smoke and the acrid scent of fire.

"Jeff! Keep running!" His mother shouted, pulling him by the arm as they hurried through the crowd. People were panicking—screaming, pushing, tripping over one another as they all tried to escape. But it was hopeless. No one could outrun the Kaiju.

As the family raced through the streets, the ground beneath their feet split open with a massive crash. Jeff stumbled and fell, disoriented. Before he could pick himself up, the wave of panicked people had swept over him. He tried to shout, but his breath was stolen as his head collided with the cold, hard pavement. Everything went dark.

When Jeff finally awoke, the world was eerily quiet. The sound of destruction was gone, replaced by the soft crackling of fires. He blinked, disoriented, the fog of unconsciousness still clouding his mind. He tried to sit up, but his body ached, bruised and battered from the stampede. He looked around, and what he saw made his stomach churn.

Bodies. So many bodies. Blood smeared across the cracked pavement. Faces he didn't recognize, but they were all around him—broken, lifeless. He scrambled to his feet, ignoring the pain in his limbs, searching desperately for the one thing that still made sense to him: his family.

But there was nothing. Only the silence of a destroyed world.

As he stumbled forward, his heart clenched at the sight of mangled bodies, limbs twisted in unnatural ways. And then—then he saw them.

The remains of his family. His mother, his father, and his older brother, all lifeless, strewn across the ground like discarded dolls. His legs gave out beneath him, and he collapsed to the pavement, hands shaking as he reached out to touch his mother's blood-soaked shirt.
