Garfield never considered himself the romantic type. He was quiet, a little reserved, and for the most part, he was fine just existing in the background of his own life. But everything changed the day Pon came into their home. Pon, the orphan with sad eyes, clutched a worn-out stuffed rabbit toy in his arms as he entered their world. Garfield was only six years old at the time, a boy with his own worries and childlike innocence. He didn't understand the significance of the new boy in their house. All he knew was that Pon's presence filled the space in ways he never thought possible.

At first, Pon was scared. He didn't know anyone here, and though he tried to be strong, the loss of his parents was a wound too deep for anyone to heal quickly. He cried often, curled up in the corner of their shared room, holding the dinosaur as if it were the only thing left in the world that made sense. Garfield, being the quiet boy he was, didn't know how to comfort him, but he stayed nearby. He made sure Pon knew that, no matter what, he wasn't alone.

Over time, Pon became a part of the family. The laughter, the fights, the shared dinners at the kitchen table—everything felt normal. Almost too normal. They weren't brothers by blood, but they were brothers in the way that mattered. They shared everything: secrets, childhood dreams, memories, and even small misunderstandings that made them laugh years later.

But Garfield's love for Pon wasn't exactly the brotherly kind.

He knew that feeling well, the flutter in his chest whenever Pon laughed, the warmth that spread through him whenever their eyes met. He'd tried to push it down, tried to pretend that it was nothing. After all, Pon had never shown any signs of returning those feelings. Besides, Pon had always been...different. He was popular, charming, and above all, he had a soft spot for Sailub.

Sailub was everything Pon liked. He was handsome, confident, and always surrounded by friends. Garfield hated it, but he kept quiet. He watched silently as Pon fawned over Sailub, as he laughed with him, spent late nights texting him, and talked about him with a wistful look in his eyes.

Garfield hated it, but he pretended not to.

It wasn't until the day Pon finally admitted he had feelings for Sailub that Garfield's heart cracked. He had spent years trying to be a good older brother, doing everything for Pon—yet he wasn't the one Pon wanted. Garfield couldn't help but feel like a shadow in his own life, always standing in the background while Pon was out in the spotlight, loving someone else.

That day, Garfield did something that felt so foreign to him.

He approached Sailub.

"I've heard a lot about you," Garfield said, trying to sound casual, though his heart was racing. "You and Pon...I think you'd make a great couple."

Sailub looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "What's this about?"

Garfield shrugged. "I just want to know more about you. I want to be...close to you, for Pon's sake."

Sailub smirked, leaning against the desk. "Is that so? You've got a funny way of showing it."

Garfield didn't know what he was doing. He wasn't even sure if it made sense, but in that moment, all he wanted was to become the person Pon could fall in love with. So he copied Sailub's mannerisms, his jokes, his swagger. Anything to get Pon to look at him the way he looked at Sailub. He was desperate—desperate for Pon's affection, desperate for the chance to be the one who made Pon smile the way Sailub did.

But it didn't work.

Pon's feelings for Sailub didn't change, no matter what Garfield did. He continued to chase after Sailub, and Garfield remained on the sidelines, just a brother. That was all he would ever be. And even though it hurt, Garfield came to accept it. There was no place for him in Pon's heart—not in the way he wanted, anyway.
