The soft click of the door behind me was almost too loud in the sharp silence of the room. My eyes scanned the unfamiliar space laid out before me. A space I didn't want to be in.

The walls were painted in a muted shade of sage green, almost calming if I allowed myself to believe it, though nothing felt calming about being here. A faint whiff of levender sprung across the air, most probably from the white candle flickering in the corner of the room.

The furnitures were arranged in a way that was almost too perfect. A plush armchair sat across from a modest but elegant desk, where a few papers and pens laid scattered.

There was a round coffee table sat in the middle, a stack of light-hearted and motivational books resting on it along with a tray of wrapped delicacies. They looked stupid and the complete opposite of motivation, but I wasn't going to comment on it.

It looked more like a welcoming living room than the therapist's office Elliott had send me to, but it only heightened the discomfort I felt in my chest.

Why did I agree to this again?

There stood my supposed therapist by the desk, her warm smile offering a friendly greeting, though I wasn't sure how to react to it.

She was a woman in her mid-thirties, her light brown hair pulled back into a tight bun, her hazel eyes kind, yet I could feel the sharpness of her assessment. She wasn't just observing me physically; she was mentally trying to figure me out too.

"Good morning, Mrs. De Luca." She smiled, her voice soft and steady as she extended a hand towards me. "I am Dr. Camilla Romano. It is nice to meet you."

I swallowed hard, forcing my expression to melt into something less unwelcoming and hostile as I shook it, my grip stiff but not entirely cold.

"Call me Sirena, please." My voice was rather small, the way she referred to me already leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. "It is nice to meet you too."

A glimmer of surprise crossed her hazel eyes, yet it was gone as soon as it came. She nodded, her gaze flickering down to my wrists. She managed to mask the look of pity from her face quickly, but I had caught onto it.

It made me want to bolt out of the room and throw up everything I had ate this morning. I curled my fingers into fists and dug them into my palm, the light sting keeping me grounded from collapsing into tears.

"I am glad you decided to come here today." She moved behind her desk, gesturing towards the loveseat across it. "Please, take a seat."
