madeline's pov

after bowling (which unsurprisingly violet beat me at) we headed to an italian place for dinner.
when we stepped outside i gush of cold air hit me.

"it's a bit chilly" i laughed as we walked to dinner. it was just down the street.

"i told you to bring a jumper" she laughed and gave me hers.
"well aren't you the sweetest" it was dark out now and even though it was only 7pm, drunk people were already on the streets.

soon we got seated and got menus placed infront of us. the service was quick and i was excited to get some good food in me.

"yeah i can't wait for the break next week, i think im going to make a appearance at school"
"oh? there's a first for everything"

"okay well if i get bored you know im just going to bother you"
"i'm sure you'll keep to your word"
"it's not my fault i didn't graduate as a kid"
"hey! you're not complaining when i helped you with your math homework"
"me complaining? never" let's be real all i do is complain. to myself atleast.

we ordered and continued talking. the restaurant kept kids colouring crayons at the table as well as a colouring sheet that looks like an old newspaper. so you best belive i was colouring while keeping with our conversation.

all of a sudden some lady leaned closer to our table. "i know you guys don't care for my opinion, but i think you two are a lovely couple, i wish people were as cool as they are nowadays when i was a teen and maybe i wouldn't have ended up with a husband" she smiled before said husband came back to the table.

violet and i made eye contact and laughed it off. when our food came i was silenced. i ate and didn't say a word.

"this food is sensational" i said finally looking up and see violet barely touching hers. "you okay?"

"my birthday is tomorrow" she shook her head before i could say anything "my mum and i had the same birthday, so i haven't celebrated it since"

"and that's understandable, do you feel guilty for celebrating when she can't" i asked and she nodded.

"you know i don't talk about my life much but i fell like i can tell you anything"
"vi you always know im here for you, just like i can tell you anything you can always talk to me"

"do you want to go to the beach after this?"
"is that even a question" i gave her a soft smile and linked our hands. definitely not beating the lesbian allegations from that lady now.

we finished our dinner and i had paid when i went up to the bathroom earlier so we were good to go.

i drove us to the beach a quiet one that you had to walk to. i pulled the blanket from the back of my car and violet questioned why i had it.

"i lived in my car for a few months, and i might have to go back to it" i said "i know i could sell my car and get a cheeper one but i love it too much"

"why did you live in your car? and why do you have to go back" i shook my head this wasn't my night to vent. it was hers.

"so" i started once we sat down. she started talking and i listened.

she told me how her parents died when she was younger and her brother barely remembers them.  she talked about a lot of things and i listened giving my input when she asked.

"enough emotions for tonight" she declared "let's go swimming"

"violet it's so cold"
"you'll warm up, c'mon" she stood up taking her top off. i stared at her in disbelief. she took her shoes and pants off before walking towards the ocean

"i don't even have a bikini!" i called after her
"you have underwear on don't you! time to strip!" she shouted and i couldn't help but laugh at her.

i took my clothes off and tied my hair up into a bun. "i hate you i hate you i hate you" i mumbled walking in till i was waist deep. she had gone fully in already and her bra was getting a little transparent. not that i was looking.

"i can't believe you're in here, with all the stuff that could touch you and you can't see it"
"violet watson stop it right now" it actually really bothered me and when she realised that she apologised giving me a hug.

"you look really good in the moonlight, it's like you're a child of the moon" i said looking into her eyes. her cheeks grew red.

"you're the personification of sunlight, a daughter of apollo"
"a daughter of who" she rolled her eyes disappointed "i'm kidding, i love greek mythology. although all i know is from percy jackson"

i wrapped my arms around her again resting my head on her shoulder before i screamed and ran out. "i can't do it, something touched my leg"

she followed me out of the water instantly. "okay okay, you're fine" she put her hands on my shoulders.

"i don't know how you're so comfortable with not knowing what's there"
"i'll just have to find you the clearest beach to enjoy then won't i"
"i mean, i wouldn't be complaining" i smiled i put violets hoodie back on before slipping my wet bra off so it didn't make the hoodie all wet.

i did the same with my pants genuinely not caring. violet did the opposite and stayed in her wet clothes and would just sit on my blanket.

"so why did you live in your car?" she asked when we were on the road again.
"i got kicked out, i took it seriously, got a lawyer involved, lied and then lived by myself. i was over my parents bullshit" i said before feeling bad. "sorry"

"don't apologise, some people just aren't fit to be parents" she shrugged turning the radio up.
"do you want to stay the night? i don't feel like being alone" violet asked and i nodded.

"i would love too"
