"8 bodies... all decapitated... their faces show their deaths were anything but easy..." A man approached his leader after inspecting the crime scene.
"So, we still don't know anything about what happened here..." Moody, who was in charge of the team, said as he surveyed the bloodbath.
More and more Aurors entered the house, grimacing at the sight. "Man, I feel like throwing up..." one of the men murmured, clearly disturbed, as he made a face at the brutal scene.
"Not so fast. We must figure out what happened here. Hold back your vomit—there's a serial killer on the loose, and we need to catch them..." Moody replied while the men inspected the bodies, using magic to try to identify any clues. However, all that remained were lifeless corpses. The killer had left no trace, acting like a professional.
Moody ignored the murmurs and moved forward, watching as some of his men attempted to assist a Muggle lying unconscious in the kitchen. He was the only source of information about what had happened there.
"He's almost waking up, sir," one of the men informed as the Muggle began blinking, regaining consciousness after receiving some potions. His eyes narrowed with difficulty, dazed, until they adjusted to the light again. Finally, he opened them fully, looking around at the men surrounding him.
"Who are you? What are you doing to me?" the man asked, immediately frightened by the fact that he was surrounded.
"Calm down, sir. You fainted. We need to know exactly what happened here," Moody said as the man looked at him suspiciously.
"What do you mean? I don't remember anything, just that I was drinking until there was a knock at the door..." the man replied, grimacing as if feeling intense pain in his body, likely a result of recent exposure to an Unforgivable Curse.
The men exchanged glances. One of them spoke quietly, "Something's not right." He looked at his leader, who seemed about to take action in such cases.
Moody sighed. "Sir, I need you to look into my eyes," he said, having no other options. The Muggle, named Tobias, looked at him strangely, unaware that his mind was being invaded at that moment. Moody's men hoped he could extract the information they needed, even knowing the act was illegal.
After a moment, Moody shook his head, frustrated. "There's nothing. His name is Severus Snape, and his mind is clean. It was erased before whoever did this left the scene."
"Tobias Snape...? Related to Severus Snape?" one of them asked, recognizing the name due to the recent scandal at Hogwarts involving a conflict where a classmate openly attacked and injured Snape.
"His father... But Snape didn't come back here after Hogwarts. His father has a sick hatred for the boy, and it seems the kid doesn't live here anymore," Moody commented, surprised that a man could hate his own son so much. Trying to figure out why, Moody could only come up with petty reasons, but that wasn't his problem. He still needed to uncover what was happening here.
"What should we do now, leader...?" one of the men asked Moody.
"..." Moody was pensive; the situation was highly unusual.
"Hey, Captain!" someone called out. "I recognize these wizards. That one was being hunted..." He pointed to a decapitated head on the floor. "...or at least, what's left of him," he murmured, finishing his sentence.
