23. Trouble maker

April looked ethereal in the red dress which extended to floor length. Her bright smile complimented the attire. Her eyes lit up like stars. She started to slowly run towards June. All of a sudden, numerous bullets pierced through her body. Blood splattered all over her dress and one cannot distinguish the red from blood with the dress.

"April!!!!" June gasped as he found it hard to breath and his heat beat rapid.

He felt a warm hold over his sweaty palms and a calm voice comforted him.

"June, I am here, I am here".

"Don't, don't...l...le..leave me" June spoke with great difficulty.

"I will never leave you, calm down okay. Easy.. easy..."

April immediately called for the doctor as June finally opened his eyes after two days.

April didn't leave June's side even for a minute in these two days.

She still remembers the feeling when she left June in the car and ran towards the flash lights. The thought of not being able to see June one more time made her mad.

Luckily that night the flash lights which they saw were the rescue party set out for April.

As for the one who set it out is waiting outside the room at this moment.

April locked her eyes with the wolf like eyes waiting outside. She could never imagine who Roy really was.

Before April tried to say something to Roy a screeching sound of the wheel chair attracted the duo's attention.

It's April's grandmother Mrs. Parker assisted by Lara, April's mother.

"I'm told that I am not going back home till June is alright" April fumed at once.

Earlier April's mother asked her several times to come home and rest a little and that she will arrange people to take care of June. But April was dead set on not leaving June's side at all.

Lara was taken aback at April's demeanor. No one speaks against Mrs. Parker like that. But she also knows April would even fight with the sun and moon when it comes to June.

As Lara was about to condemn April, Mrs.Parker waved a hand. Lara cooled down at once, "your grandmother just wants to speak to June for a few minutes"

"What about?I told you I am not leaving his side till he is completely healed" April stood in the way.

"It's not about that she just want to talk to him for a few minutes" Lara reasoned.

April finally got out of the way with a doubtful look.

Lara pushed the wheel chair into the room, quickly smiled at June and closed the door.

There was a second of an awkward silence between June and Mrs.Parker.

"How is your wound?" finally Mrs.Parker spoke.

"It's healing well Mrs.Parker" June answered meekly. Thoughts ran in his mind like a train. The last time June met Mrs.Parker was many years ago when he went to the mansion to play with April. It's also then he overhead her disapproval of him. How he will be only a menace for April and how he made friends only for money and how he is not eligible to be April's friend.

It is also partially Mrs.Parker's words that kept his feelings for April at bay all these years.

"You might be wondering why I am here. I will cut to the chase" Mrs.Parker spoke seriously.

"Yes Mrs.Parker" June acknowledged.

"Come and stay with us at the mansion"

June is surprised at once. She is asking him to stay at the mansion? Did he hear her correctly?

"April is in danger" Mrs.Parker spoke calmly yet a slight emotion is laced in her expression.

"What??" June gasped.

"It all began on that night when April raced completely drunk. I know my grand daughter can be a trouble maker but she is never that irresponsible. I hired Roy to do a private investigation on what happened that night at rolling mines. He found out that her drink was spiked and her car was tampered. A deliberate attempt to take her life and make it look like an accident. But we don't know who did it or why they did it."

"What??" June's spine shivered.

"Then I appointed Roy as her secret body gaurd. He was to follow April and secretly observe who is trying to harm her. So he joined your store as a worker keeping an eye on April. But we never expected that they would be so boldy attacking her at Winterford."

Horror settled on June's face. Someone's trying to kill his April??? The thought made all the blood in his body boil.

"I know very well that April would not leave your side given the situation you are in. Even if I take her to the mansion by force she will try to sneak away to meet you. So, till you completely heal stay with us in the mansion so that April will not put herself in danger. I will try to find out who is trying to harm April and deal with them meanwhile. Also, only you, me and Roy know this truth. I hope you keep this with you. The lesser the people who knows it, the better. We don't want to alert the enemy nor let April live in fear everyday. Thanks for protecting my grand daughter once and help me protect her again" Mrs.Parker concluded.

"Anything for April Mrs.Parker. Please let me know if I can be of any help to findout the perpetrators" June's voice engulfed in pain.

"You take care of yourself well first young man, the rest I will take care"
