Scale Number: Minor 4 (At the end)
Kalayavan wasn't surprised when they took an alternate route, toward 'the Office'. Instead of taking the exit that led into the center of Grandair, where Headquarters was located. As far as everyone else in the truck was concerned, she was just a human with no knowledge that the rest of them were any different. He would have been more worried if they wanted her to be brought straight to the face of the secret building instead of the 'company's face'. The office building they used to hide any inconveniences that might not have been handled properly. Even the government that controlled the sectors knew about them to a point; hell some of the officials hired their services, they just didn't dig too deep if they didn't want to end up on one of their lists.
No, it was a good sign that they were at the large, extravagantly decorated decoy.
Holding a hand out to help her out of the back seat, he kept his voice low, "Don't speak unless someone asks you a question directly, and only give short direct, but respectable answers." Praying that for the first time since they've been together, she would take him seriously, and do as she was told without question. "Make sure you don't turn your back to anyone but me, if you can help it," he continues to list all the rules that would be most important and effective for keeping her alive and out of trouble.
Not that she was actually listening to him, as she was too busy taking in the building they were about to enter. Casting a few glances around at the surrounding structures before they actually enter into the lobby. Only looking away when she glanced at the other Relevents that came out to join them. Escorting them into the only structure made more from glass than metal, and a labyrinth once entered.
If they had tried running business out of the abandoned warehouse above Headquarters, then it would have stuck out like a sore thumb. Now, when you're a bunch of expertly trained assassins you will always remember; location, location, location. The expensive looking building blending in with the other buildings around.
"Are you listening to me?" He turned her to face them, stopping the entire group, making one of the Sepireers sigh with annoyance. Turning their heads away, showing there was still some fraction of respect to his name. "If you've never listened to me before, then hear me now. The people you're about to meet, the Elders of our family, won't tolerate insubordination, especially from someone outside of the family." He might not have actually said it aloud, but Cat heard what his tone implied for just her, 'Especially not from a human'.
Although the expression on her face said something about his implication, and what she thought about it. A secret she was keeping from him, now he just needed to figure out if she was keeping it because she didn't want him to know, or because she hadn't had the chance. After all, she'd said there was a lot to talk about before Halrim had entered that beat up trailer she'd been living in. But whatever it was, she seemed more tense than the entire ride over, not with fear but growing anger. Not that he could figure out what could possibly get her so worked up.
"Caterina."
"For god's sake, yes, I'm listening!" She finally snapped, jerking her eyes upward, away from the occasional assassin moving from 'office' to 'office'. No doubt missing the way their guards looked around at each other, probably surprised at the balls she had to speak to Kalayavan in such a way. Other than Halrim, who was already acquainted with her sharp tongue, that is. "Be on my absolute best behavior, I got it."
Unable to hide her surprise, one of the female Relevents that came to escort them had her mouth open in shock. "I wouldn't talk to him like that, if I were you. You do know who you're talking to, don't you?"
Caterina's head snapped sideways, shooting a sharp steely look in the woman's direction. The trained killer actually looked worried under the pregnant woman's direct attention. "Well you're not me, are you?" His fearsome pet furrowed her brows, "And how well do you know him exactly?" She hissed insinuatingly, making a possessive step toward the unwelcomed speaker.
