I stood in a grassy field, not knowing where I was. Hell, I never knew where I was in this thing.
I felt something in my hand, when I raised it to see what it was, I was holding a gun. Did I have to shoot something? I looked around, and behind me was Emma standing there. She stood there smiling at me.
" Go ahead and shoot."
" No," I gulped. Sweating and heart pounding already. The wind in the air helped a little bit.
" Why not?"
" Because I- I love you."
" Liar." She said. I say a tear from her face blew away in the wind. I started walking towards her, putting the gun in my back pocket. But I was stopped by something I couldn't see, like an invisible wall. I pounded on it and nothing happened.
" I'm not."
" You can't say it without force or lies."
" Not true!" I pound. Soon the wall is gone, and I stumble away from it. As I stumble I turn it into a run towards Emma. Finally what seemed like forever I reached her. " I love you, and I'll say it until you believe me." I squeezed. But when I did, she blew away in the wind. As it carried it away I called her name one final time.
I looked at the button over my chest. Thinking of pushing it. But then I heard a voice directly behind me.
" Why didn't you?" I heard my mother say.
" Go away!" I yell. I didn't want to speak with her again, not ever. And I didn't hear her voice again.
" Derek?" I heard Emma say behind me. " If you won't do it," I felt someone grab the gun from my back pocket and start sliding it out. I immediately grabbed the hand.
" Let go." I say in a firm voice.
" Either you do it or I do." She says putting her other hand on my shoulder. The one she burnt. But I ignored the pain. She gets out of my grip and has the gun, my heart pounds. I spin around looking at her.
" Wow, never held one of these things. Now let's see," She looked and saw how many bullets there were. " Only one huh? Oh well." She put the tip or it to the side her head, finger over the trigger.
I ran over to her and made her drop to the floor, my body hovering over hers, me pinning her down. the gun smacked out of her and out of her reach. I grabbed the gun and threw it away from the both of us. Safer.
" What are you doing?" She asked, struggling to get out of my grasp.
" Protecting you from killing yourself. I won't let it happen, not ever." I said.
" You think I'm a monster." She grinned. " So why not?"
" I won't let you." I sucked in my lips.
" I didn't ask for you're permission." She shook her head. " Or did you're ear have a bullet blown through it?"
I removed myself from her, pressing the button as I stood up.
I saw the room around me, small, grey. And there was a door right in front of me, I opened it to find only the girl there. She had a pair of what looked like sunglasses.
" You know that was a very interesting simulation. Never seen anyone with that kind of fear."
" Where is she?" I say as I took off the vest and heart things. Setting them on the table next to the computers.
" She told me to tell you she was home." She answered.
" She told you to tell me that?" My heart broke a little.
" But I saw her run after the bathrooms. She was crying. You should leave her alone for a while. She saw your first simulation." My heart was pounding.
" I'm not a shit head." I say.
" You are afraid of her in your fantasy dreams? Pathetic. But interesting.
I ran out the door, some how finding the bathrooms after maybe five minutes.
I ran into the women bathroom area, only one stall was closed. That had to be where Emma was. And I saw one little girl washing her hands. Soon leaving. I raced to the last stall. Pounding on the door.
" Emma?" I say. I hear a gasp that sounds to much like hers when she cries. " Look just come out of there and we can talk about this. I sw-"
" No! Never! Not with you! You hate me! You think I'm going to kill you! You think-"
" That was just something that the computer did. Just come out of there and we'll talk about this okay? We can go wherever you want. Just please, please come out. I'm begging you Emma." I didn't want to discuss this in a public bathroom.
There was a silence. And I hear the door unlock and then it slammed open. She marched past me without looking at me. I didn't look at her. And she didn't look at me. I wanted her for just a second to look at me. I wanted her to talk to me without yelling.
