I didn't blame my sister for being angry at Luke for getting pissed off at her. In fact, I was pissed at Luke too. But I didn't expect her to tell her off like she did. I expected her to cry and she didn't. Instead, she went to her room and ranted to Michael who probably wasn't even listening about how she's not a boy and never was or will be.
That was her biggest pet peeve; being called a boy.
Our parents let her stay home today after her fight with Luke yesterday. It was unfair that she felt she had to miss school to avoid people but I understood that she was bad with confrontation. She always had been and she never liked fighting.
Instead of Calum picking me up that morning, I decided to ask Ashton to come pick me up. He showed up with Michael who he always dropped off at school and then he'd take the bus home if Ashton was working. Michael got out when they reached my driveway and got in the back to let me sit in the front beside Ashton.
"So how's Alice?" Ashton asked as he backed out of the driveway.
"Still angry that Luke wouldn't listen to her and then called her a dude." I replied. "I'm so gonna tear him a new one."
"But you know he'll probably still be pissy because she stood up to him and kicked him out of the house." Ashton said. "You know how he is when people stand up to him like that instead of getting intimidated and backing down."
"Luke likes pretending he's the alpha." Michael agreed.
"Well, for today," I began with a small smile, "I'm the alpha. And he's going to listen to me and apologize or I'll kick his ass."

We went into school through the backdoor since Ashton parked in the back so he could leave when the bell rang. As we entered the school, I could tell Ashton and Michael were getting more nervous. They didn't want anything happening between Luke and I but I had to stand up for Alice when she wasn't here. I knew that she really did like Luke and I honestly thought that maybe he would be her first boyfriend, and I knew Luke definitely liked her a lot after our conversation the morning after the party, but now his own ignorance was ruining that.
We turned down our hall and saw Violet, Calum, and Luke standing around. Calum and Violet were standing closer together like they were trying to subtly shun Luke or something. They were talking to each other but Luke was staying on his phone and out of the conversation.
I let go of Ashton's hand and started walking faster. I went up to Luke who didn't look up from his phone, so I took it away from him. He looked up at me with a look that would've normally made anyone give it back and run in the other direction. I, however, put his phone in my back pocket and looked back at him.
"Amy. Give. It. Back." he said.
"No." I shrugged.
"Don't be a bitch Amy, give my phone back." he huffed, sounding more frustrated and annoyed.
"How could you be so fucking rude to my sister?" I demanded. "You called her a fucking guy! She liked you and you metaphorically slapped her in the face!"
"Well she is one, isn't she?"
"She is not." Calum stated, stepping around Violet to corner Luke like I was. "Alice is a girl. And she tried to tell you and she stressed out about it all weekend-"
"Why didn't she tell me sooner then like you and everyone else, huh?" he asked harshly. "If she liked me so much, she would've told me when everyone else found out."
"Because she didn't tell anyone else, you fucking idiot!" I groaned. "Ross found out and told everyone when you were out, and he made her cry. She wouldn't show up to school on Friday because she knew there would be people like you who would make fun of her-"
"I don't date guys."
"She's intersex," Violet cut in, glaring at him, "but she's still a girl."
"What about Vi's mom?" Michael asked him. "You like her and she was a man at one point."
"Doesn't mean I'd date a-"
"What, a guy?" Violet asked, sounding very offended. She had reason to be.
"I wasn't gonna say that!" he groaned.
"Luke, you're just being stubborn." Ashton sighed. "Just listen to us."
"I don't want to fucking listen, I want to be left alone!" he yelled. "I don't wanna hear about Alice! I'm done with her, we're over! I don't like her anymore and she obviously doesn't like me so let it the fuck go!"
Everyone went silent but I wasn't quitting. I'd make him understand even if it killed me.
"After she turned 18," I began, "was the first time I've ever seen her happy with herself and I refuse to see her crumble and break again. She liked you, she went out with you, she even kissed you, and you turned around and decided because she's a little different from typical girls that it's not worth it and she's not worth it and you're too good to date someone like her. You are not ruining her, I won't let it happen."
He looked between all of us and then looked away. "Give me my phone."
I took it out of my back pocket and handed back to him. He put it in his own pocket and pushed through us, stalking off down the hallway.
"Do you think he'll come around?" Michael asked.
"I'll make him." I said.
Violet shook her head. "This is between him and Alice. Let her take care of it, Amy."
"She can't."
"She can." Ashton assured me. "The way she stood up to him yesterday proves she can. She's done taking shit from people, Ames. She's learning to hold her own and if she has a problem with Luke, I'm sure she'll be just like you and refuse to keep her mouth shut about it."
