I wasn't allowed in the room while they tried to get her to quit seizing. I had to wait in the waiting room and pace and think. Thankfully it only took about two minutes for our friends to show up, breathing heavily from running. Ashton pulled me into a tight hug, letting me bury my face in his neck.

"How is she?" Luke asked.

I pulled away and glared at him. "You have some fucking nerve coming here like you're her friend."

He went quiet and sat down in a chair, going back on his phone like he'd been doing for the passed two days.

"Seriously, how's she doing?" Calum repeated.

I sighed and Ashton rubbed my back. "Still not stable. They're making me wait out here."

"I never got a hold of your parents." Ashton told me. "I left them messages though."

"Their commute would take a while anyway..."

"I'm looking for the sister of Alice Ackerman." a doctor announced, walking through the double doors into the waiting room.

I raised my hand. "That's me."

"We've gotten her stable but we need to pump her stomach to get the drugs out." he explained. "You'll need to wait out here for a little longer but I thought you'd be happy to know she's no longer seizing."

I let out a sigh of relief. "Yes, thank you so much."

He gave me a reassuring smile and said, "You're welcome," before going back the way he came.

"Guess we should just sit and wait." Ashton shrugged, leading me to sit in a chair across from Luke while he sat beside me.

"I'm so sorry, Amy." Michael apologized, sitting down next to Luke with his arms resting on his knees. "I should've been watching Ross and his friends closer-"

"It's not your fault," I told him, "I'm the one who shouldn't have let her go."

"It's neither of your faults, okay?" Calum told us before looking at Michael. "Where's Vi? She get lost?"

"She went to the police station to see her dad." he explained. "He wants to test the water for drugs. Ross must've spiked it when we were watching the soccer team."

"But it was my water bottle and he didn't know Alice would drink out of it." I realized. "Do you think he was trying to drug me?"

He shrugged. "Maybe. I doubt we'll get any answers from him."

"He better transfer before I get back." I growled, looking down at the ground intently.

While Ashton tried to calm me down, I heard Michael start talking to Luke quietly. Their voices were the only sounds in the waiting room except for the shuffling of papers and the quiet chatter of nurses.

"Why are you constantly on your phone?" Michael wondered. "You haven't looked away from that thing at all so far this week."

"Research." Luke breathed out. I glanced up and he was still looking at his phone while Michael looked over his shoulder.

"Intersex FAQ." Michael murmured and then smiled a little. "You're studying up on Alice?"

He gave a tiny shrug. "I'm not studying her, I'm just learning more about intersex people."
