We were having dinner on the back deck since it was really nice out so I texted Luke to let him know he could sneak into the kitchen if he needed anything. The window by the sink was left open - it usually was during the day - but I doubted my parents would hear him while we were talking.

Amy was definitely stressed and I could tell by how stiff her body looked when she was sitting between Violet and Ashton.  As Calum and I sat across from them, I couldn't stop looking at her and trying to tell her to calm down without using words. We'd just stare at each other and make faces to talk. It probably looked weird to everyone else but it was what we did even as kids.

"So, Ashton," my dad began, "how long have you been dating my daughter?"

"About six months, sir." he told him and then jumped a little in his seat. "Ow!"

"I told you to say two." Amy mumbled.

Ashton whined softly. "I didn't know."

"Amy, I think you're freaking him out more than your dad is." Calum laughed. "Chill, girl."

"I have a question." my mom said. "Um, you all know about Alice now?"

Violet nodded with a polite smile. "Yeah, and we're okay with it."

"I thought Alice said she was inviting three people over?" my dad furrowed his eyebrows as he looked around the table. "You're one short, Al."

"Michael was feeling sick." I lied smoothly. "He decided to stay home."

I was thankful my parents got home before Luke got here, otherwise they'd be confused as to the amount of cars in the driveway. Just in case one of them happened to have to go to the front lawn, I hoped Luke parked on the side of the road instead.

"So what exactly are you?" Ashton wondered. "You never really told us."

"Yeah, what's the story?" Calum asked.

I shrugged. "I'm intersex. It's a little complicated so I'd rather not go into details right now. Besides, we're here for you to meet my parents...and also because I accidentally invited everyone else."

"And because there's so many people," my dad began, "we ran out of lemonade. Al, mind go making some more?"

I nodded, getting out of my seat and grabbing the empty pitcher. I walked over to the sliding doors and pulled them open, stepping inside to see Luke standing in the kitchen with his arms crossed over his chest. He didn't exactly look happy but I couldn't think of why.

"Hey," I smiled, "did you want me to grab you anything?"

"No, I'd rather you tell me something." he stated, sounding angry.

I gave him a confused look as I filled the pitcher with water. "Okay...like what?"

"Like why you didn't tell me you're intersex." he said.

I almost dropped the glass pitcher when he said that. I carefully and quickly placed in on the counter and looked at him. "Luke, I wanted to tell you-"

"You basically lied to me." he interrupted. "I don't date guys."

"I'm not a guy!" I shouted, feeling more annoyed than upset now. Nothing pissed me off more than when people said I was a guy. "I was always raised as a girl and I've always been a girl! Don't call me a guy!"

The sliding door opened and I knew everyone probably ran inside because of my yelling.

"Luke," my mom said, sounding surprised, "I didn't know you were coming."

"I was just leaving." he said through gritted teeth, never taking his eyes off me.

I was sick of crying over people treating me like crap because of who I was and I refused to cry now, at least in front of Luke. "Good, leave. I don't need people who treat me like a freak show in my life anyway. I know who I am and I'm sick of assholes like you trying to tell me otherwise and making me feel bad about myself. Fuck you, Luke. Get out of my house."

He glared at me and clenched his jaw but didn't say anything as he turned on his heels and left the house, slamming the front door hard enough that it was clear he was angry, but not so hard that my dad wanted to go kick his ass for it. Everyone was completely silent after he left.

After a moment, my mom ask quietly, "What happened, sweetie?"

I sniffled, realizing angry tears were forming in my eyes. "I'm not a boy."
