The ride to Violet's house was mostly silent except for Luke's music, but it wasn't an awkward silence. Luke kept one hand on the wheel and had the other on the center console with my hand in his. He gave my hand a gentle squeeze every few minutes which made me blush for some reason.

It was so odd being with a boy romantically. I'd never even thought of the idea when I started going to school, yet here I was. I thought if I was ever dating a boy, I'd be awkward and I would have to get used to it, but it was so easy with Luke. I was never uncomfortable or thought he went too far. Luke always tried to make sure I was comfortable and I appreciated that.

"So if you cut your hair and dyed it blue," Luke began, "would anyone be able to tell you and Amy apart?"

I furrowed my eyebrows but couldn't help but smile at how odd his question was. "What kind of question is that?"

He shrugged. "Just trying to make conversation."

"Is this how you usually make conversation with girls?" I laughed. "And yes, Amy's face is a little bit thinner."

"I don't know, I guess I'm just used to having pretty simple conversations with girls."

"What's that mean?"

"Most girls I've dated were...ditsy." he said. "I normally talked about simple things."

"Well I can talk about non-simple things." I smiled.

He grinned and nodded. "Alright, like what?"

"Like...did you read Catcher in the Rye?" I asked.

He chuckled. "That's specific, but yes, I did."

"I had just finished reading it before I transferred and I still can't tell if I liked it or not." I admitted. "Holden seemed to have a lot of...problems. He should probably see a therapist."

"Didn't it imply that he was getting help at the end of the book?" Luke asked, furrowing his eyebrows as he tried to recall the details of the book.

I shrugged. "I don't really remember. I want to know what was wrong with him. Do you think he had depression? He didn't seem to like anything but he also didn't really make any sense and I don't think depression just makes people not make any sense."

"I don't know," Luke shrugged, "I kind of hated that book. I really liked Of Mice and Men, tho-"

"Don't even get me started on that book!" I shouted. "It was so sad and so unnecessary for them to do what they did-"

"You mean shooting Lennie?" he smirked.

"Luke!" I cried and he laughed at how worked up I was getting over the book. I pouted. "Don't laugh at me. Lennie didn't have to die."

"He literally killed Curly's wife, and also a puppy and a mouse." Luke pointed out.

"But it wasn't his fault," I whined, "he had mental problems. If they just told their employer that to begin with-"

"George told the guy he got kicked in the head by a horse when he was younger."

"They should've just told him straight-up, 'hey, this guy need to be kept an eye on so just watch out for him'. Would that have been so hard?"

We pulled into a driveway and I assumed it was Violet's. Her house was bigger than mine but not as big as Michael's parents' house. Then again, I doubted any house was that big. There were also multiple cars in the driveway. I knew one was Calum's, another was Violet's, and I was pretty sure I saw Ashton's - maybe he'd just gotten off and worked in the area so Amy asked him to come over. There was also a police car which didn't surprise me since Violet had said her dad was a cop.
