*******************************
Mahak suddenly took two steps back. As Rudra moved toward her, she raised a hand, halting him in his tracks.
Everyone—Alok, Rajni, Sudha, Suresh, and Dadi—watched in stunned silence, unable to grasp what was happening.
Mahak wiped her tears, avoiding Rudra’s gaze, and said in a trembling voice, "I can’t stay in India anymore."
The words hit like a thunderclap. The room froze. Rudra stood there, paralyzed, as if the ground had been ripped from beneath him. His mind refused to process what he had just heard. Mahak wanted to leave. Leave him.
Dadi stepped forward, cupping Mahak’s face. "What are you saying, beta? Whatever this is, we can sit down and talk it out. You don’t just walk away from family like this. If we’ve made a mistake, tell us. If you need space, you and Rudra can live separately for a while."
Suresh and Alok nodded in agreement. "Yes, Dadi is right."
Tears welled up in Mahak’s eyes. She shook her head, her voice breaking. "No, Dadi. None of you have done anything wrong. You all love me so much, and I will always be grateful for that. But… I can’t stay with Rudra anymore."
She turned to look at him, pain flashing in her eyes. "He betrayed me."
A heavy silence filled the room.
"Every time I see his face, all I see is deception. And today, I found out that this entire marriage was built on a lie. He deceived me before we even got married. And now…" her voice wavered, but she forced herself to continue, "he’s going to be a father."
She said it with such conviction that the air in the room seemed to crack.
"No, Mahak! This can’t be true," Rajni protested. "I know my son. He loves you! This has to be some misunderstanding."
She turned to Rudra, gripping his arm. "Say something! Tell her it’s not true!"
But Rudra remained silent. His eyes never left Mahak, dark and unreadable.
Sudha stepped forward, frustration lacing her tone. "Have you lost your mind? Where will you go, leaving your mother behind?"
Mahak’s tears spilled over. She folded her hands before Sudha, pleading. "I don’t deserve your love, Maa. Please… don’t stop me. I can’t breathe here anymore."
"Then stay. Rudra will leave." Sudha’s voice was firm.
"No, Mom." Mahak looked up, broken yet resolute. "I won’t take away anyone’s son. I won’t take away anyone’s family." Because I know the pain of losing a family
Mahak walked up to Rajni, folded her hands, and spoke in a broken voice, "I always wished for your love. And when I finally got it, I was too unfortunate to even cherish it. If I’ve ever made any mistakes, knowingly or unknowingly, please forgive me."
Tears filled Rajni’s eyes as she pulled Mahak into a tight hug. "No, Mahak. The mistake was mine. It took me too long to see you for who you truly are."
Raaj walked up, forcing a smile through his pain. "Buddy, how can you just leave me like this? We still had so many parties to crash together!"
Mahak hugged him. "I’m sorry, bhaiya. I’ve let you all down. If you can, please forgive me."
