As the sun rose, its warmth and rays touched the sand and ocean, spreading a golden glow that fell on Mahak and Rudra's faces. The gentle light stirred Rudra awake, and when he opened his eyes, he saw Mahak peacefully sleeping with her head resting on his chest.
A soft smile curved his lips as he leaned down and kissed her forehead. In a hushed voice, he whispered into her ear, "Good morning, babydoll." His words stirred Mahak from her slumber. She opened her eyes, smiled sweetly at Rudra, and then sat up.
Rudra looked at her and asked, "Shall we head back to the hotel? Freshen up and grab something to eat?"
Mahak nodded in agreement, and the two of them made their way to the car parked nearby on the beach. As soon as they got in, the driver handed Rudra a phone, saying, "Saheb, there’s a call for you."
Rudra took the phone and said, "Hello."
From the other side, Shivansh’s voice came through. "Saheb where have you been? I got a call from the hotel saying you didn’t return."
"I’m fine," Rudra replied calmly. "Mahak wanted to stay by the beach, so we stayed here for a while."
Shivansh responded, "Saheb I arranged for this phone to be sent to you since your old one was lost. Also, the chopper will be ready in two hours."
"Got it," Rudra said before ending the call with his usual efficiency.
Mahak leaned out of the car window, her eyes lighting up as she took in the crisp Mumbai air and the towering skyscrapers all around. She turned to Rudra with a playful pout and said, “You should’ve told me earlier that we were coming to Mumbai! I would’ve made so many plans.”
Rudra smiled and replied, “Don’t worry, babydoll We’ll come back and spend as much time here as you want.”
Satisfied with his promise, Mahak nodded and turned her attention to her phone. As she scrolled mindlessly, a thought crept into her mind, and her heart sank a little. *Why hasn’t anyone wished me? Not a single call or message... Did everyone really forget my birthday?*
Trying not to let it bother her, she put her phone away just as the car pulled up at the hotel. After freshening up and having breakfast, they headed to the helipad.
Mahak had chosen a cute outfit for the day—a pink T-shirt paired with white pants and her hair tied up in a ponytail. She looked effortlessly adorable. Rudra, on the other hand, was dressed sharply in a blue shirt and cream trousers, his usual sophisticated style. All of this had been pre-arranged by Shivansh, as per Rudra’s instructions.
By evening, the two of them reached Lucknow. But even after the whole day had passed, not a single person had wished Mahak on her birthday. Her smile faltered slightly as she wondered if everyone had truly forgotten the most special day of her year.
Shivansh met them at the helipad. Walking up to Rudra, he asked, “All set, Saheb Should I drop you both home?”
“No, you head to the office. Get tomorrow’s meeting summary ready. I’ll head with the driver,” Rudra instructed.
Shivansh nodded and left for the office, while Rudra and Mahak got into the car. After a while, the car came to a stop in front of a massive mua center. Mahak stepped out, looking puzzled. “Why are we here? Why didn’t we go home?” she asked.
Rudra gently cupped her face in his hands, his voice soft but teasing. “Because my babydoll’s surprise is still pending.” He smiled, taking her hand and leading her inside the mua center.
